Alvalade (Lisbon Metro)
Alvalade is a station on the Green Line of the Lisbon Metro. The station is located under Av. de Roma, at the intersection with Av. da Igreja in the Alvalade neighbourhood. History The original 1972 design of the station was by the architect Denis Gomes with art work by Maria Keil. On 17 August 2006 the south lobby was opened based on a renovation project designed by the architect Sanchez Jorge with art installations by Bela Silva; the remodeled north lobby would be completed on 25 October 2007, this time with assistance from the original artist Maria Keil. The station was also equipped to be able to serve passengers with physical disabilities; lifts provide access to the platforms. Cais do Sodré is a station on the Green Line of the Lisbon Metro. It is located in the Praça Duque da Terceira, connecting to the Cais do Sodré railway station and with a boat station (allowing for quick travel between Lisbon and Cacilhas, Seixal and Montijo. History This metro station was built by Pedro Botelho and Nuno Teotónio Pereira and the art work was done by António Dacosta, which left some of his drawings to be used in the station after his death, with some help from the painter Pedro Morais. Senhor Roubado station is part of the Yellow Line of the Lisbon Metro. History It opened on March 27, 2004, in conjunction with the Odivelas, Ameixoeira, Lumiar and Quinta das Conchas stations, and it is located on Rua do Senhor Roubado. Rather than serving a residential neighbourhood, it is located close to the junction of the N8, A8 and A36 highways, and operates as a park and ride interchange station. Maria Keil
Maria Keil (9 August 1914 – 10 June 2012) was a Portuguese visual artist. She was born in Silves and died in Lisbon. Maria Keil produced a vast and diversified work that includes painting, drawing and illustration, azulejo, graphic and furniture design, tapestry and scenography. Particularly noteworthy is her intense activity as an illustrator, as well as the crucial role she played in the renovation of contemporary tiles in Portugal. In 2013, the Museum of the Presidency of the Republic organized a retrospective exhibition covering the multiple aspects of her work. It has a library named after her in Lisbon at Lumiar. Biography Maria Keil was born in Silves, in the Portuguese region of Algarve, daughter of Francisco da Silva Pires and Maria José Silva.
