Altia Oyj was a Finnish state-owned corporation based in Helsinki, which produces, imports, exports and markets alcoholic beverages. It operates in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia and Latvia. Altia has production plants in Koskenkorva and Rajamäki in Finland and in Tabasalu in Estonia. Anora Group Plc ( fi, Anora Group Oyj) is a Nordic distilled beverage and wine company. It was formed in 2021 as a result of the merger of Norway's Arcus Group and Finland's Altia Group. Headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, Anora has offices in each of the Nordic capital cities. Finlandia Vodka
Finlandia is a brand of vodka produced in Finland. It is made from barley distilled into a neutral spirit in the village of Koskenkorva in Ilmajoki, operated by Finland's Altia Corporation. The distilled alcohol is then transported to a production facility in the village of Rajamäki in Nurmijärvi, about 45 kilometers (28 miles) north of Helsinki. In Rajamäki, the spirit is blended with glacial water, flavored (except for the classic non-flavored edition, 101 and Platinum), and bottled. Alko
Alko Inc is the national alcoholic beverage retailing monopoly in Finland. It is the only store in the country which retails beer over 5.5% ABV, wine (except in vineyards) and spirits. Alcoholic beverages are also sold in licensed restaurants and bars but only for consumption on the premises. Alko is required by law to sell drinks with lower alcohol content than 5.5% and non-alcoholic alternatives, but in practice carries a very limited stock of low alcohol beer, cider and non-alcoholic drinks and others as supermarkets are allowed to sell those at a substantially lower price. Arcus (company)
Arcus AS is Norway's largest wholesaler of wine and liquor. It was created when it was demerged from the state-owned wine and liquor retailer Vinmonopolet on January 1, 1996. The retailing operations were kept in Vinmonopolet; import, export, production, and storage were transferred to Arcus. In July 2001 the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry sold 66% of the company to Sucra. Sucra were also in 2001 granted an option to purchase the rest of the company, which they did in 2003. In 2005 Sucra sold Arcus to the Swedish investment company Ratos, including the partial ownership of Braastad. In 2012 Danish Distillers (Aalborg Taffel, etc., Gammel Dansk) was bought from Pernod Ricard. But the akvavit brand Brøndums snaps, which was a brand of Danish Distillers since a merger in 1893, had to be divested because of the dominant position of Danish Distillers in the Danish market. Skåne Akvavit is a Swedish spiced spirit brand of the akvavit type. It is named for the province of Scania, which is called Skåne in Swedish. Skåne Akvavit was first presented in 1931 as a less spiced version of O.P. Anderson. Skåne Akvavit is spiced with caraway, anise and fennel. Skåne Akvavit is produced at the V&S Vin & Sprit AB distillery in Sundsvall, Västernorrland County, Sweden. Vin & Sprit used to be state-owned, but was sold to French company Pernod Ricard to create more competition on the Swedish market. Rajamäki (village)
Rajamäki (; literally translated "border hill") is a village in the municipality of Nurmijärvi in southern Finland. Rajamäki is located 45 kilometres (28 mi) north of the capital Helsinki and has a population of around 7,500 inhabitants. Formerly, Rajamäki was the largest of Nurmijärvi's villages, until in the 1970s Klaukkala grew larger than Rajamäki. It is from Rajamäki to the center of Nurmijärvi. Rajamäki is best known for its alcohol distillery which was established in 1888 because of the fresh and pure water found in the area. The distillery was a part of the old Finnish alcohol monopoly Alko and is now part of the Altia corporation. Koskenkorva Viina (also known simply as Koskenkorva or ''Kossu'') is a traditional clear spirit drink (38%) in Finland, produced by Anora Group at the Koskenkorva distillery in Ilmajoki and bottled in Rajamäki, Nurmijärvi. The grain (barley) alcohol is produced using 200-step continuous distillation designed to produce high-purity industrial ethanol. The drink is produced by diluting this alcohol with spring water and a very small amount of sugar. Although commonly called a vodka in English, in Finland it is not called a "vodka", but ''viina'' (see brännvin), although the word "vodka" is found in the label due to EU regulations. Koskenkorva Vodka is the same beverage (but with 40% or 60% alcohol instead of the traditional 38%) intended for foreign markets.
