Alternative Nation
''Alternative Nation'' was a television show in the U.S. dedicated to alternative music. It aired on MTV from 1992 to 1997, mostly on weeknights. It was hosted by Kennedy. History ''Alternative Nation'' began airing in 1992. It was a somewhat more mainstream version of sister-show '' 120 Minutes''. While the latter aired videos by more diverse artists, such as Pixies, The Cure, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Bronski Beat, New Order, The Replacements, Robyn Hitchcock, Meat Puppets, Butthole Surfers, and The Verve, ''Alternative Nation'' focused primarily on the alternative hits of the day, including videos by Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Hole, Blind Melon, Weezer, Bush, and Oasis, among others. MTV Adria (South-Eastern Europe) was the last of the MTV channels to schedule the show, where it was scheduled until September 17, 2017. Lisa Kennedy Montgomery
Lisa Kennedy Montgomery (born September 8, 1972), referred to mononymously as Kennedy, is an American libertarian political commentator, radio personality, author, and former MTV VJ. She was the host of MTV's now-defunct daily late-night alternative-rock program ''Alternative Nation'' throughout much of the 1990s. , she is the host of ''Kennedy'' on the Fox Business Network. Kennedy occasionally hosts '' Outnumbered'' on Fox News, and is a frequent panelist on that network's show '' The Five''. Early life Lisa Kennedy Montgomery was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and raised in Lake Oswego, Oregon, a suburb of Portland. Kennedy and her two brothers were raised by her mother. She is of Romanian and Scottish descent. She attended Lakeridge High School. She has a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Soundgarden
Soundgarden was an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1984 by singer and drummer Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil (both of whom are the only members to appear in every incarnation of the band), and bassist Hiro Yamamoto; Cornell switched to rhythm guitar in 1985, replaced on drums initially by Scott Sundquist, and later by Matt Cameron in 1986. Yamamoto left in 1990 and was replaced initially by Jason Everman and shortly thereafter by Ben Shepherd. The band dissolved in 1997 and re-formed in 2010. Following Cornell's death in 2017 and a year of uncertainty regarding the band's future, Thayil declared in October 2018 that Soundgarden had disbanded once again, though they did reunite in January 2019 for a one-off concert in tribute to Cornell. Superock
''Superock'' was a music television show that focused on rock music, heavy metal music, alternative rock and alternative rap. History ''Superock'' first aired on MTV in the US on February 18, 1995 and it replaced the long running ''Headbangers Ball'' show. '' Cashbox'' magazine reported on January 25, 1995 that ''Superock'' would "combine rock, hard-edged alternative and alternative rap music and look at the new lifestyle trends of today's music fans and the bands they follow". The presenter of the US version of the show was Jackie Farry, who had previously been the nanny to Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. It aired on Saturday nights from midnight to 2 a.m. ''Superock'' first aired on MTV Europe on June 2, 1997 where it also replaced ''Headbangers Ball'' which had been discontinued there a year before. MTV Adria was a localized version of the music and entertainment channel MTV Europe, customized for the Balkan countries that used to be constituent parts of Yugoslavia. Oasis (band)
Oasis were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1991. Originally known as the Rain, the group initially consisted of Liam Gallagher (lead vocals, tambourine), Paul Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass guitar) and Tony McCarroll (drums). Liam's older brother Noel (lead guitar, vocals) later joined as a fifth member, finalising the group's core lineup. During the course of their existence, they had various lineup changes, with the Gallagher brothers remaining the only staple members. Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993 and released their record-setting debut album ''Definitely Maybe'' (1994). Bush (British Band)
Bush are an English rock band formed in London, England in 1992. Their current lineup consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Gavin Rossdale, lead guitarist Chris Traynor, bassist Corey Britz, and drummer Nik Hughes. In 1994, Bush found immediate success outside the UK with the release of their debut album, ''Sixteen Stone'', which is certified six times multi-platinum by the RIAA. They went on to become one of the most commercially successful rock bands of the 1990s, selling over ten million records in the United States and 20 million records worldwide. Despite their success in the US (especially in the mid-1990s), the band were considerably less popular in their home country and they have enjoyed only marginal success there. Weezer
Weezer is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1992. Since 2001, the band has consisted of Rivers Cuomo (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Patrick Wilson (drums, backing vocals), Scott Shriner (bass guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), and Brian Bell (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals). After signing to Geffen Records in 1993, Weezer released their self-titled debut album, also known as the Blue Album, in May 1994. Backed by music videos for the singles "Buddy Holly", "Undone – The Sweater Song", and "Say It Ain't So", the Blue Album became a multiplatinum success. Blind Melon
Blind Melon is an American rock band formed in 1990 in Los Angeles by five musicians: three from Mississippi, one from Pennsylvania and one from Indiana. The band currently consists of guitarists Rogers Stevens and Christopher Thorn, drummer Glen Graham, vocalist Travis Warren and bassist Nathan Towne. They are best known for their 1993 hit "No Rain", and enjoyed critical and commercial success in the early 1990s with their neo-psychedelic take on alternative rock. Blind Melon released two albums on Capitol Records – ''Blind Melon'' (1992) and ''Soup'' (1995) – before their original lead vocalist Shannon Hoon died of a drug overdose on the band's tour bus in New Orleans on October 21, 1995. After four years of unsuccessfully searching for a replacement for Hoon, Blind Melon officially dissolved in 1999.
