Altan Erdogan
Altan Erdogan (born 29 June 1967, in Amsterdam) is a Dutch journalist. He is the former editor of the Dutch weekly magazine ''Nieuwe Revu''. Life and career Erdogan was born to a Turkish father and a Dutch mother. After his journalism studies at the School of Journalism in Utrecht, he worked as a reporter and editor for the '' Haarlem Dagblad'', ''Het Parool'' and ''De Volkskrant''. From 2002 he was managing editor and deputy of ''Times Magazine''. In December 2007 he was the first foreign editor of a national magazine in the Netherlands. In the years 2007-2010 Erdogan served as editor-in-chief of ''Nieuwe Revu''. He changed the name to ''Revu'' but his successor, Frans Loman, changed it right back. In the Erdogan years the circulation of ''Nieuwe Revu'' dropped from 64,360 to 46,619 (by 28%), but this was not different from the previous and subsequent years. PowNed is a Dutch broadcaster, which transmits radio and television programmes on the Netherlands Public Broadcasting system. Each weekday evening it airs a satirical news show called ''PowNews'' on Nederland 3, in which politicians and other public and non-public figures are confronted with provocative questions, and often ridiculed. The broadcaster was affiliated with and was started up with the help of the popular GeenStijl shock blog. The director of PowNed is Dominique Weesie (who also presents ''PowNews'') and their star reporter is Rutger Castricum. ''Het Parool'' () is an Amsterdam-based daily newspaper. It was first published on 10 February 1941 as a resistance paper during the German occupation of the Netherlands (1940–1945). In English, its name means ''The Password'' or ''The Motto''. History Second World War The paper was preceded by a stenciled newsletter which was started in May 1940 by Frans Goedhart. In late 1940, Wim van Norden joined the group of producers of the newsletter; Van Norden would later serve as director of the newspaper between 1945 and 1979. Jaap Nunes Vaz also became involved with the newspaper. In 1944, the paper, albeit illegal and vigorously persecuted, reached a circulation of approximately 100,000, and it was distributed by the Dutch resistance. Haarlem (; predecessor of ''Harlem'' in English) is a city and municipality in the Netherlands. It is the capital of the province of North Holland.
