The Turkic languages are a language family of over 35 documented languages, spoken by the Turkic peoples of Eurasia from Eastern Europe and Southern Europe to Central Asia, East Asia, North Asia (Siberia), and Western Asia. Altan Öymen
Mehmet Altan Öymen (born 20 June 1932) is a Turkish journalist, author and former politician. Biography Öymen graduated from the School of Political Science of Ankara University. He began his journalist career already in 1950 at age of 18, and worked as reporter, columnist and editor-in-chief long time for the major newspapers like ''Ulus'', ''Akşam'', ''Cumhuriyet'' and ''Milliyet''. He founded the press agency Anka news agency in 1972. In the 1960s, Altan Öymen served as the press attaché in Bonn, Federal Republic of Germany. He entered politics in 1961 as member of the parliament that was formed after the military coup in Turkey, 1960. Altan (band)
Altan are an Irish folk music band formed in County Donegal in 1987 by lead vocalist Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and her husband Frankie Kennedy. The group were primarily influenced by traditional Irish language songs from Donegal and have sold over a million records. The group were the first traditional Irish group to be signed to a major label when they signed with Virgin Records in 1994. The group has collaborated with Dolly Parton, Enya, The Chieftains, Bonnie Raitt, Alison Krauss, and many others. Origin As an 18-year-old young student and musician from Belfast, Frankie Kennedy used to travel to Gweedore, County Donegal on his summer holidays, learning Irish and playing traditional Irish music on Irish flute and tin whistle. Fatma Saadet İkesus Altan (born Saadet İkesus, 3 March 191612 December 2007) was a Turkish opera singer and her country's first female vocal coach and first female opera director. She also translated numerous librettos and lieder into Turkish. She was the author of a textbook of singing technique and a biographical story book. Francesco Tullio Altan (born 30 September 1942) is an Italian comics artist and satirist. Biography He was born in Treviso, the son of Friulan anthropologist Carlo Tullio Altan. He studied at the University IUAV of Venice, but halted his studies to work for cinema and TV as a scenographer and writer. In 1970 he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he created his first comics series for children, published in a local newspaper. In 1974 he began collaborating with Italian publishers. Kamil Altan
Kamil Altan (7 April 1924 – 25 February 2011) was a Turkish footballer. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1952 Summer Olympics. Career Prior to the 1952–53 season, Altan moved from Eyüpspor to Galatasaray, where he played until the end of the 1959–60 season. He scored one goal in 59 league appearances for the club. In the 1954–55 and 1955–56 seasons, he was part of the teams winning the Istanbul Football League. He then signed with Taksim, playing there until 1960. After ending his football career, he became coach of Galatasaray's youth team in 1961. Çetin Altan (22 June 1927 – 22 October 2015) was a Turkish writer, journalist, and a member of parliament. He was considered one of the finest writers in the modern Turkish language of the late 20th century. Early years Çetin Altan was born on 22 June 1927 to lawyer Halit Bey of Crimean Tatar descent and his wife Nurhayat. Until age seven, he was called Altan. With the adoption of the Surname Law in Turkey in 1934, the family chose the name Altan as their surname, and the son was renamed Çetin.
