Alta Vista Ward
Alta Vista Ward (Ward 18) is a city ward in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada represented on Ottawa City Council. Alta Vista Ward was created prior to the 1966 election when Gloucester Ward was split in half due to population growth in the Alta Vista area. Until the 1972 elections, the ward was represented by two councillors (then called aldermen). Prior to the 1980 election, the Ward was split in half, with the western half remaining as Alta Vista ward and the eastern half became Canterbury Ward. They were reunited prior to the 1994 Election and was known as Alta Vista-Canterbury Ward. During this time, on regional council it was known as just Alta Vista Ward. It was renamed to Alta Vista in 2000. The ward is located in Ottawa's southeast end, and covers the neighbourhoods of Eastway Gardens, Riverview, Alta Vista, Heron Gate and Sheffield Glen. Jean Cloutier
Jean L. Cloutier (born c. 1959) is the Ottawa City Councillor for Alta Vista Ward. He was elected for the first time in the 2014 Ottawa municipal election. Cloutier grew up in the Hintonburg neighbourhood of the city and has lived in Alta Vista since 1986. Cloutier is a past president of the Canterbury Community Association, which covers Ottawa's former Canterbury Ward. A Chartered Professional Accountant, he was Controller at Tubman Funeral Homes for 12 years prior to being elected. In 1988, he and friend Brice White purchased the Nelson Cinema on Rideau Street and converted into the ByTowne Cinema. Cloutier is a member of the choir at St François d'Assise and has a black belt in martial arts. Allan Higdon
Allan L. Higdon is a former Ottawa City Councillor and acting mayor of Ottawa. He served on council from 1994 through 2000. Born in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Higdon immigrated to Canada with his family in 1957 and settled in Kingston, Ontario. He received a BA from Queen's University in English and History, a B.Ed from the University of Toronto, and also became an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music (ARCT). Peter Ernest Hume (born June 19, 1963) was a city councillor in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He represented Alta Vista Ward in the south end of the city. Highway 417 (Ontario)
King's Highway 417, commonly referred to as Highway 417 and as the Queensway through Ottawa, is a 400-series highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. It connects Ottawa with Montreal via A-40, and is the backbone of the highway system in the National Capital Region. Within Ottawa, it forms part of the Queensway west from Highway 7 to Ottawa Road 174. Highway 417 extends from the Quebec border, near Hawkesbury, to Arnprior, where it continues westward as Highway 17. Sheffield Glen is a neighbourhood in Alta Vista Ward in southeast Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is bounded on the west by Russell Road, on the south by Walkley Road and on the north and east by Lancaster Road. The neighbourhood is more commonly referred to as Southvale by Ottawans, but appears as Sheffield Glen on maps. Heron Gate or Herongate is a neighbourhood in Alta Vista Ward and Gloucester-Southgate Ward in the south end of Ottawa, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is defined by the Herongate Tenant Coalition as being bounded on the north by Heron Road (Ottawa), Heron Road, on the west by Heron-Walkley Park and Albion Road (Ottawa), Albion Road, and by the Walkley rail corridor on the south. Alta Vista (Ottawa)
Alta Vista is a neighbourhood in Alta Vista Ward in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Its boundaries according to the Alta Vista Community Association are that part of Alta Vista Ward south of Smyth Road in the north, north of Walkley Road and east of the Rideau River (and Bank Street), and west of the "greenspace underneath Haig Drive". However, the name is ambiguous, as there are several sub-neighbourhoods in this area, (see list below), as the neighbourhood could refer to the ward as a whole, down to thecore Alta Vista area, (which could be defined as south of Pleasant Park Road, north of Heron Road, and west of the eastern greenspace corridor), centred on Alta Vista Drive. Riverview (also known as Riverview Park) is a neighbourhood in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is southeast of the downtown adjacent to the Rideau River, its location on which is its namesake. Eastway Gardens
Eastway Gardens is a small neighbourhood in Alta Vista Ward in the east end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It consists of a series of dead end streets coming off of Tremblay Road between Riverside Drive and St. Laurent Boulevard. Most of these streets are named for letters of the alphabet, beginning with Avenue K and ending with Avenue U. According to the Canada 2016 Census, the neighbourhood had a population of 602. The residents association boundaries for the neighbourhood are the Rideau River to the west, St. Laurent Boulevard to the east, Coventry Road to the north, and Belfast Road to the south. History In 1911, this area of the Gloucester Township was registered as the new subdivision of Bannermount on the property of Nicholas J. Tremblay.
