Alma Francis-Heyliger
Alma Francis Heyliger is a United States Virgin Islands politician, former radio talk host, and Senator serving in the Legislature of the Virgin Islands from the St. Thomas-St. John District, since 2021. The owner of Infinity Broadcasting, LLC. In December 2020, Alma achieved her goal to take ownership of Radio One AM 1000, while becoming one of the few Black women to manage a radio station out of 11,000 radio stations across the country. Early life and education Alma Francis Heyliger was born on October 12, 1973, in St. Thomas to the late Leeann Rabsatt Francis from Tortola and Denzil” Frank” Francis Defreitas from St. Kitts. The Legislature of the Virgin Islands is the territorial legislature of the United States Virgin Islands. The legislative branch of the unincorporated U.S. territory is unicameral, with a single house consisting of 15 senators, elected to two-year terms without term limits. University Of The Virgin Islands
The University of the Virgin Islands (or UVI) is a public historically black land-grant university in the United States Virgin Islands. History UVI was founded as the College of the Virgin Islands on March 16, 1962. In 1986, it officially became one of the historically black colleges and universities. The institution also changed its name in 1986 to the University of the Virgin Islands to reflect the growth and diversification of its academic curriculum, research programs, and regional community services. On August 18, 2010, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit decided that the university's regulations prohibiting signs and conduct that could cause emotional distress were unconstitutional. WVWI (1000 AM) is a radio station licensed to serve Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands. The station is licensed to Infinity Broadcasting, LLC which is wholly owned by Alma Francis Heyliger. It airs a News/Talk format. Programming In addition to its regular programming, this station airs the "dLife Diabetes Minute" health advisory program and Major League Baseball games as an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves radio network. Ownership The station began operations in October 1962 as WBNB (the callsign stood for ''B''ob a''N''d ''B''ob, as in Bob Noble and Bob Moss, the station's co-founders) co-owned with the now-defunct WBNB-TV, the Virgin Islands' first television station. Charlotte Amalie High School
Charlotte Amalie High School (CAHS) is a public high school housing a population of just over 1400 students, and over 130 members of faculty and staff. It is located in what is colloquially called the "town area" of the island of St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. It is named after the official name for the "town area," Charlotte Amalie. It is a part of the St. Thomas-St. John School District. It is the territory's most populous high school. History CAHS was established in 1920 as a junior high school. In 1930, the first 12th grade class was added, and four students graduated in the class of 1931. It is popularly known as "High School" to older residents of St. Thomas, because it was the first public high school opened on the island. Lorraine Berry
Lorraine Berry (November 15, 1949 — July 19, 2010) was a 12-term senator and 2-term Senate President of the United States Virgin Islands Legislature of the Virgin Islands. Personal life Lorraine Berry was born on November 15, 1949, on the island of Saint Thomas. She attended Sts. Peter & Paul School and the University of the Virgin Islands. She was an active part of the local French community for many years, for which she was awarded the '' Ordre national du Mérite''. She died of colon cancer on July 19, 2010, at the Schneider Medical Center in Charlotte Amalie. Career Berry's early political experience included being PTA president, working in the Finance department, and working for the then Delegate to Congress Ron de Lugo.
