The Alliance of Southern Forces was a Syrian rebel coalition consisting of 8 rebel factions from the Free Syrian Army's Southern Front. The group operated in southwestern Syria. The coalition supported the High Negotiations Committee and its participation in the Geneva peace talks on Syria. Omari Brigades
The Omari Brigades was a Syrian rebel group formed in the Lajat region in Daraa Governorate as the first FSA group formed in the province. It received TOW missiles and has been supplied and funded by Saudi Arabia. It is part of the Alliance of Southern Forces. The group is named after the Omari Mosque in Daraa city. History The group's leader, Captain Al Qatahneh, was killed in a gun battle with an opposition activist named Qaisar Habib on 28 August 2014. The activist, severely wounded and admitted to a hospital, was murdered on 19 October by Omari Brigades fighters. In 2016, the group participated in the fight between the Syrian opposition and two Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant-affiliated groups, the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade and the Islamic Muthanna Movement. The Hawks of the South (') was a Free Syrian Army coalition that was active during the Syrian Civil War. It was created on 27 December 2014 by Colonel Mohammed Khaled al-Duhni to strengthen the Southern Front. The coalition operated in eastern Daraa Governorate. First Army (Syrian Rebel Group)
The First Army was created on 1 January 2015 in an effort to unify rebel ranks in southern Syria. Three prominent rebel units merged under this command structure. History During the 2015 Southern Syria offensive, the commander of the 1st Army, Colonel Saber Safar, was killed in action. On 13 April 2015, it joined a number of other Southern Front affiliates in condemning the al-Nusra Front's ideology and discontinuing all forms of cooperation with it. Daraa Governorate ( ar, مُحافظة درعا / ALA-LC: ') is one of the fourteen governorates (provinces) of Syria. It is situated in the south-west of the country and covers an area of 3,730 km2. It is bordered by Jordan to the south, Quneitra Governorate and Israel to the west, Rif Dimashq Governorate to the north and As-Suwayda Governorate to the east.
