Allersberg Express
Allersberg-Express was the brand name for the RegionalBahn train service between Nuremberg and Allersberg in Bavaria in southern Germany, operated by Deutsche Bahn. It started operations on 10 December 2006 and is one of the few regional trains to run on a German high-speed line. The total journey time was about fifteen minutes; the train was subject to the fare structure of the Verkehrsverbund Großraum Nürnberg. The Allersberg-Express was also called the ''R9 Express'' on VGN network web site. With the December 2020 schedule change, the Allersberg Express was retitled S5 of the Nuremberg S-Bahn. It is now served with Alstom Coradia Continental trainsets. Service operation The train operates as a shuttle service without any stops between the Nürnberg Hbf and Allersberg (Rothsee) stations. Allersberg (Rothsee) Railway Station
Allersberg (Rothsee) is a railway station situated at km 25.4 of the Nuremberg-Ingolstadt high-speed line. The station is situated about 3 km west of the Middle Franconian town Allersberg, adjacent to the A 9 motorway. Together with Kinding (Altmühltal) (km 58.6) and Ingolstadt Nord (km 86.8) it is one of three regional stations on the high-speed line. It was opened on December 6, 2006, connecting Allersberg to the rail network again 33 years after the closure of the Burgthann–Allersberg railway. The station is administrated by the station management at Nuremberg station. Operational usage Trains call at the station since December 10, 2006. Prior to that date, the railway line was exclusively used by ICE trains that did not call at Allersberg. The Intercity Express (commonly known as ICE ()) is a system of high-speed trains predominantly running in Germany. Linienzugbeeinflussung (or LZB) is a cab signalling and train protection system used on selected German and Austrian railway lines as well as on the AVE and some commuter rail lines in Spain. The system was mandatory where trains were allowed to exceed speeds of in Germany and in Spain. It is also used on some slower railway and urban rapid transit lines to increase capacity. A Driving Van Trailer (DVT) is a Great Britain, British purpose-built control car railway vehicle that allows the driver to operate with a locomotive in Push-pull train, push-pull formation from the opposite end of a train. A key benefit of operating trains with DVTs is the requirement for fewer locomotives; for example, a second locomotive would otherwise have to join at the other end of the train after arrival at terminal stations to lead the train's onward journey. Unlike many other control cars, DVTs resemble locomotives, specifically British Rail Class 90, Class 90 for the 82/1 mark 3 series and British Rail Class 91, Class 91 for the 82/2 mark 4 series; thus when the train is operating in push mode, it does not appear to be travelling backwards. Silberling is the colloquial name for the n-coaches of the Deutsche Bundesbahn, a type of regional Passenger car (rail), passenger coach of which more than 5,000 units were built from 1958 to 1981. Nearly all of the coaches have undergone extensive modernisation – these modernised units are widely known as ''Mintling'', ''Grünling'' ("greenling") or ''Rotling'' ("redling") after their exterior colours.
