Allen Bryant
Allen Bryant Jr. (March 29, 1918 – March 22, 1992), nicknamed "Lefty", was an American Negro league pitcher who played between 1937 and 1946. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Bryant attended Lincoln High School in Kansas City, Missouri. He made his Negro league debut in 1937 for the Memphis Red Sox, and went on to play for the Kansas City Monarchs in 1940 and 1941. Bryant served as a sergeant Sergeant (abbreviated to Sgt. and capitalized when used as a named person's title) is a rank in many uniformed organizations, principally military and policing forces. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum. Kansas () is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita.
