Allatini Mills
The Allatini Mills is a large former industrial area in the city of Thessaloniki, Greece near Kalamaria district. The name comes from the famous Allatini flourmills founded by the Allatini family in the late 19th century. Moses Allatini operated a roller mill and pottery; his sons founded the Fratelli Allatini company. In 1854 they built the first steam mill in Thessaloniki, together with Darblay de Corblay; they acquired the whole property in 1882.Colonas, Vassilis. Kalamaria
Kalamariá ( el, Καλαμαριά, ''Port Side'') is among the most densely populated suburbs in Greece, located about southeast of downtown Thessaloniki, with a population of92.238 inhabitat History The area was first settled by humans in prehistoric times, and remains from that settlement have been found around the Mikro Emvolo cape. The name Kalamaria was first used in 1083 to denote the area southeast of Thessaloniki, including but not limited to the area of the present-day municipality. During the Byzantine and the Ottoman periods, the area was mostly uninhabited, except for a few fishing lodges. Vitaliano Poselli
Vitaliano Poselli (1838–1918) was an Italian architect from Sicily, mostly known for his work in the city of Thessaloniki in northern Greece. Life He was born in Castiglione di Sicilia in 1838, and studied in Rome. In 1867, the Catholic Church commissioned to him the construction of the Church of Santo Stefano in Istanbul. From there, the Ottoman government sent him to Thessaloniki (then known as Selânik), where he built some of the most important public edifices of the city. In 1888 he was married and established his residence there. The company had two industry sectors; ceramic production in Charilaou and flour mills in Kalamaria. During the next decades the company was expanded, and in the 1930s the mills were the biggest in the Balkans. Since then, the company's ownership changed many times, but preserving its historic name.
