Allan Strang
Allan Strang (11 October 1921 – 4 February 1996) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the South Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He was the brother of Richmond premiership players Doug & Gordon Strang and St Kilda footballer Colin Strang, Strang who was a marking forward was recruited after talent scouts saw him in a practice match between Albury and the Army. He spent two years playing for St George in Sydney before moving to Melbourne to play for the same team his father did between 1904 and 1913. In 1949, he was cleared to play with Williamstown. Strang accepted a contract to captain coach the Wagga Tigers in 1950. Gordon Strang
Gordon "Cocker" Strang (10 February 1908 – 8 October 1951) was an Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League for the Richmond Football Club between 1931 and 1936. Strang first came under notice when he kicked 10 goals for Jindera FC in the Albury & Border Football Association, in 1927. He was the son of Bill Strang, who played for South Melbourne between 1904 and 1913 (and was South Melbourne's leading goal-kicker in 1913) After a year in Tasmania as captain-coach of North Launceston, he returned to Richmond, and played all of Richmond's 18 matches in the 1938 season, scoring 6 goals. He then transferred to Wodonga as captain-coach in 1939. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Sydney Swans
The Sydney Swans are a professional Australian rules football club based in Sydney, New South Wales. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The Swans also field a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). The club's origins trace back to 21 March 1873, when a meeting was held at the Clarendon Hotel in South Melbourne to establishing a junior football club, to be called the South Melbourne Football Club. Victorian Football League (1897–1989)
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The VFL, aiming to become a national competition, began expanding beyond Victoria to other Australian states in the 1980s, and changed its name to the AFL in 1990. The league currently consists of 18 teams spread over five of Australia's six states (Tasmania being the exception). Doug Strang
Francis Douglas Strang (12 July 1912 – 28 March 1954) was an Australian rules footballer who played as a full forward in the VFL between 1931 and 1935 for the Richmond Football Club. Family He married Ina Lillian McCullough, at Geelong on 18 November 1937. He was the brother of dual Richmond premiership player Gordon Strang, St Kilda footballer Colin Strang, and South Melbourne footballer Allan Strang. He was the father of dual Richmond premiership player Geoff Strang, and the uncle of Richmond premiership player John Perry. Colin Strang (footballer)
Henry Colin Strang (10 August 1910 – 28 November 1946) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Strang, the son of former South Melbourne player Bill Strang, was born in Sydney, but grew up in Albury. He played his early football for East Albury and in 1933 trained with Richmond, where his brothers Doug and Gordon were premiership players. A younger brother, Allan Strang played for South Melbourne. However it was with St Kilda that he made his two league appearances, in the 1933 VFL season. He kicked three goals from full-forward on debut, against Carlton at Junction Oval, in round seven. The following round he played in St Kilda's loss to Collingwood at Victoria Park, then lost his place in the team when Bill Mohr returned from injury. St George AFC
St George Australian Football Club Inc is an Australian Football club competing in the AFL Sydney competition and based in the area of St George, New South Wales. At one stage affiliated with the Adelaide Crows football club, they reverted to their traditional red and white colours in 2009. They are known as the Dragons. History The club formed in 1929. Bill Strang (footballer)
William James Strang (7 October 1883 – 9 May 1937) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family He married Frances Eleanor Collins in 1905. Four sons played senior football in the VFL; Allan and Colin as well as Richmond premiership stars of the 1930s Doug and Gordon. Two grandsons were members of the Tiger's premiership team in 1967, Geoff Strang (son of Doug) and John Perry (son of his daughter Edna "Bob" Perry, née Strang), with Geoff backing up again in 1969. Strang was also a Justice of the Peace (J.P.) in Albury. Football Strang was a strong aerialist from Albury, used as both a follower and forward. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships.
