Allan Jones (actor)
Allan Jones (October 14, 1907 – June 27, 1992) was an American actor and tenor. Jones is best remembered as the male romantic lead actor in the first two films in which the Marx Brothers starred for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, '' A Night at the Opera'' (1935) and '' A Day at the Races'' (1937), as well as the film musicals ''Show Boat'' (1936) and '' The Firefly'' (1937), in which he introduced what became his signature song, "The Donkey Serenade". Early years Jones was born in Old Forge, Pennsylvania, and raised in nearby Scranton, where he graduated from Central High School. His father and grandfather were Welsh coal miners, and he worked in coal mines early in his adult life. He left that occupation to study voice at New York University. Allan Arthur Jones (born 9 December 1947) is an English cricket umpire and a retired cricketer. When he joined Glamorgan in 1980 he became the first cricketer to represent four English first-class counties. Allan Jones was educated at St John's College, Horsham. Allan Jones (born 1951 or 1952) is a British music journalist and editor. Following university, Jones took a job in the stockroom of Hatchards on Piccadilly. While he was there he applied for a writing job at the music weekly '' Melody Maker'' with a letter that concluded, "''Melody Maker'' needs a bullet up its arse. I’m the gun – pull the trigger." He joined the staff in 1974 and became editor ten years later. After he wrote a scathing review of Pink Floyd's ''The Wall'' show at Earls Court Exhibition Centre he was described on stage by Roger Waters as a "stupid shit". During Jones's tenure as editor ''Melody Maker'' provided early publicity for bands ranging from The Stone Roses to Pearl Jam. One of his most significant early decisions was to resist the publisher's instruction to put Kajagoogoo on the cover, choosing instead The Smiths. Allan Jones MBE, is an engineer who pioneered Combined Heat and Power (CHP), renewable energy and fuel cell systems in the United Kingdom and Australia from 1990 to the present. Allan Powell Jones (6 January 1940 – September 1993) was a Welsh professional footballer who played as a full back. He is best remembered for the seven years he spent in the Football League with Brentford, making over 280 appearances for the club. He was posthumously inducted into the Brentford Hall of Fame in 2015. Career Liverpool Jones began his career at Second Division club Liverpool, joining as an amateur in April 1955. After two years in the youth team, Jones signed a professional contract in April 1957. He had to wait until 19 December 1959 to make his first team debut, when he deputised for John Molyneux in a 4–0 victory over Cardiff City, a match also notable for the fact that it was Bill Shankly's first in management at Anfield. He is the founder, chairman, and CEO of Check Into Cash, Creditcorp, Jones Management Services, and the Community Financial Services Association, as well as several other local lending agencies. He has been called the "father of the payday loan industry" for founding and building the first major payday loan chain.
