Allan Jones (cricketer)
Allan Arthur Jones (born 9 December 1947) is an English cricket umpire and a retired cricketer. When he joined Glamorgan in 1980 he became the first cricketer to represent four English first-class counties. Allan Jones was educated at St John's College, Horsham. A tall right-arm seam bowler and a tail-end right-handed batsman, he represented Sussex (1966–1969), Somerset (1970–1975; capped 1972), Northern Transvaal (1972/73), Orange Free State (1976/77), Middlesex (1976–1979; capped 1976) and Glamorgan (1980–1981).Allan Jones CricketArchive. Horley
Horley is a town in the borough of Reigate and Banstead in Surrey, England, south of the towns of Reigate and Redhill. The county border with West Sussex is to the south with Crawley and Gatwick Airport close to the town. It has its own economy that comprises business parks and a shopping centre with a long high street. Because of its position, it has good commuter links to London and other surrounding large towns, with good rail links at the railway station and bus services at the bus station. Toponymy The first written record of Horley is a charter from the late-12th century, in which it appears as ''Horle''. In 1203, it is recorded as ''Horleg'' and in 1219 as ''Horlei''. In cricket, batting is the act or skill of hitting the ball with a bat to score runs and prevent the loss of one's wicket. Any player who is currently batting is, since September 2021, officially referred to as a batter (historically, the terms "batsman" and "batswoman" were used), regardless of whether batting is their particular area of expertise. Middlesex (; abbreviation: Middx) is a historic county in southeast England. List Of One Day International Cricket Umpires
This is a list of cricket umpires who have officiated at least one men's One Day International (ODI) match. As of October 2022, 418 umpires have officiated in an ODI match. The first ODI match took place on 5 January 1971 between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The umpires for this game were Tom Brooks and Lou Rowan. In April 2019, Claire Polosak became the first woman to stand in men's ODI match, when she was one of the on-field umpires for the final of the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament. Three umpires, Rudi Koertzen of South Africa, Billy Bowden of New Zealand and Aleem Dar of Pakistan, have officiated in 200 or more ODI matches. On 1 November 2020, in the second ODI between Pakistan and Zimbabwe, Pakistan's Aleem Dar stood in his 210th ODI match as an on-field umpire, surpassing South African Rudi Koertzen's record of officiating in the most ODI matches. One Day International
A One Day International (ODI) is a form of limited overs cricket, played between two teams with international status, in which each team faces a fixed number of overs, currently 50, with the game lasting up to 9 hours. The Cricket World Cup, generally held every four years, is played in this format. One Day International matches are also called Limited Overs Internationals (LOI), although this generic term may also refer to Twenty20 International matches. They are major matches and considered the highest standard of List A, limited-overs competition. The international one day game is a late-twentieth-century development. The first ODI was played on 5 January 1971 between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Indian Cricket League
The Indian Cricket League (ICL) was a private cricket league funded by Zee Entertainment Enterprises that operated between 2007 and 2009 in India. Its two seasons included tournaments between four international teams (World XI, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh) and separate tournaments between nine domestic teams notionally located in major Indian cities as well as Lahore, Pakistan and Dhaka, Bangladesh. The matches were played in the Twenty20 format, and was the first domestic Twenty20 league in India. There was also a planned domestic 50-over tournament, but this did not happen. The ICL lacked the support of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and International Cricket Council, which placed it at a major disadvantage when compared to other cricket competitions. In 2008 the Board of Control for Cricket in India launched the their own Indian Premier League. ICL was an unsanctioned league.
