Allan Botschinsky
Allan Botschinsky (29 March 1940 – 26 November 2020) was a Danish jazz trumpeter and flugelhornist, composer, arranger, conductor, producer, and record label owner. Biography Botschinsky was born in Copenhagen, and had a background in classical music. His father played bassoon professionally. He began on trumpet aged 11. At 14, he studied at the Royal Danish Conservatorium. In 1956, he joined Ib Glindemann's big band, where he remained through 1959; he also performed with visiting American musicians around this time, such as Oscar Pettiford, Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, Lee Konitz, Ben Webster, and Kenny Dorham. From 1963–1964,. he studied at the Manhattan School of Music. From 1964, he played with the Danish Radio Big Band. While with Danmarks Radio, he worked as a conductor and arranger. Sahib Shihab (born Edmund Gregory; June 23, 1925 – October 24, 1989) was an American jazz and hard bop saxophonist (baritone, alto, and soprano) and flautist. He variously worked with Luther Henderson, Thelonious Monk, Fletcher Henderson, Tadd Dameron, Dizzy Gillespie, Kenny Clarke, John Coltrane and Quincy Jones among others. Biography He was born in Savannah, Georgia, United States. Edmund Gregory first played alto saxophone professionally for Luther Henderson aged 13, and studied at the Boston Conservatory, and to perform with trumpeter Roy Eldridge. He played lead alto with Fletcher Henderson in the mid-1940s. He was one of the first jazz musicians to convert to Islam and changed his name in 1947. Nils Lindberg
Nils Lindberg (11 June 1933 – 20 February 2022) was a Swedish composer and pianist. Biography Lindberg was born in Uppsala on 11 June 1933. He was known both as a jazz composer and musician, but was also active in other styles. Several of his works are written in a style combining elements of jazz, Swedish folk music and classical music. He studied musicology at Uppsala University from 1952 to 1956 and then composition at the Royal College of Music, Stockholm, from 1956 to 1960. "While still a student he began playing professionally with" Benny Bailey (1957–8), Anders Burman (1958), Ove Lind (1959), Lars Gullin, and Putte Wickman. He played with a touring Duke Ellington in 1973 and recorded with vocalist Karin Krog in 1976. Lindberg died on 20 February 2022, at the age of 88. George Gruntz
George Gruntz (24 June 1932 – 10 January 2013) was a Swiss jazz pianist, organist, harpsichordist, keyboardist, and composer known for the George Gruntz Concert Big Band and his work with Phil Woods, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Don Cherry, Chet Baker, Art Farmer, Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, and Mel Lewis. Gruntz, who was born in Basel, Switzerland, was also an accomplished arranger and composer, having been commissioned by many orchestras and symphonies. From 1972 to 1994, he served as artistic director of JazzFest Berlin. He died at the age of 80 in January 2013.
