All About Trans
All About Trans is a project that aims to improve how the media understands and portrays transgender people. Its aim is to "promote trans voices in the media" and engage media professionals (such as journalists, presenters and editors) and other sector professionals with trans topics in creative ways. The project is managed by On Road Media, a charity that "tackles social problems by improving media coverage of misrepresented groups and issues". All About Trans is supported and led by an advisory group made up of individuals and organisations from within the trans community and consultants including journalist Paris Lees, filmmaker Fox Fisher and pilot Ayla Holdom. The work is funded and supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. Previous funders include the BBC and Channel 4. Transgender
A transgender (often abbreviated as trans) person is someone whose gender identity or gender expression does not correspond with their sex assigned at birth. Many transgender people experience dysphoria, which they seek to alleviate through transitioning, often adopting a different name and set of pronouns in the process. Additionally, they may undergo sex reassignment therapies such as hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgery to more closely align their primary and secondary sex characteristics with their gender identity. Not all transgender people desire these treatments, however, and others may be unable to access them for financial or medical reasons. Those who do desire to medically transition to another sex may identify as transsexual. ''Transgender'' is an umbrella term. The Media Show
''The Media Show'' is a weekly British current affairs radio programme and podcast on BBC Radio 4 which examines the current state of the media. The first episode was broadcast at 13:30 on 1 October 2008 and since May 2017 has been presented by Amol Rajan, the BBC's Media Editor and occasionally by Andrea Catherwood. Until February 2017, when he died, the show was usually presented by Steve Hewlett, a columnist for ''The Guardian'' newspaper and visiting Professor of Journalism and Broadcast policy at the University of Salford. ''The Guardian'' is a British daily newspaper. It was founded in 1821 as ''The Manchester Guardian'', and changed its name in 1959. Yvonne Roberts
Yvonne Roberts (born 1948) is an English journalist. She was born in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire. Her family moved to Madrid for three years when she was a few months old and she lived in a number of locations through the rest of her childhood. Roberts was educated at Warwick University between 1967 and 1969, being taught by historian E. P. Thompson. Her career in journalism began at the ''Northampton Chronicle & Echo'' in 1969, remaining with the publication until 1971. Roberts was employed on the ''Weekend World'' (1972–77), ''The London Programme'' (1977–79) and '' This Week'' from 1988. The ''Daily Record'' is a national tabloid newspaper which is published online also based in Glasgow, Scotland. The newspaper is published Monday-Saturday while the website is updated on an hourly basis, seven days a week. The ''Record'''s sister title is the '' Sunday Mail''. The ''Daily Mirror'' is a British national daily tabloid. Founded in 1903, it is owned by parent company Reach plc. Independent Press Standards Organisation
The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) is the regulator of the newspaper and magazine industry in the UK. It was established on 8 September 2014 after the windup of the Press Complaints Commission (PCC), which had been the main industry regulator of the press in the United Kingdom since 1990. IPSO exists to promote and uphold the highest professional standards of journalism, and to support members of the public in seeking redress where they believe that the Editors' Code of Practice has been breached. However, its effectiveness is questioned by some critics, including Hacked Off, and it has been called a "pointless so-called regulator" by the National Union of Journalists (NUJ).
