Alistair Forrester
Alistair Forrester (30 August 1950 – 26 May 2018) was a Scottish professional darts player who competed in the 1980s. Career Forrester qualified twice to play in the World Professional Darts Championship but lost on both occasions. He was beaten 0–2 by Bobby George in the 1981 Championship and 1–2 by the Belgian Luc Marreel in the 1982 Championship. Forrester also lost in the first round at the 1981 British Professional, losing 0–3 to Alan Evans, and in the 1989 Winmau World Masters to Per Skau. Darts or dart-throwing is a competitive sport in which two or more players bare-handedly throw small projectile point, sharp-pointed projectile, missiles known as dart (missile), darts at a round shooting target, target known as a #Dartboard, dartboard. World Professional Darts Championship
The World Professional Darts Championship is one of the most important tournaments in the darts calendar. Originally held as an annual event between 1978 and 1993, players then broke off into two separate organisations after a controversial split in the game. Each organisation, the British Darts Organisation (BDO) and the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) then arranged their own World Championships, the former in January the latter in December. As a result, there was no longer was an unified world champion in the sport for nearly three decades. The BDO version dated back to 1978, when it was held at the Heart of the Midlands nightclub, Nottingham. The following year it moved to the Jollees Cabaret Club, Stoke, where it stayed until 1985. Bobby George
Robert Francis George (born 16 December 1945) is an English television presenter and former professional darts player. He is widely recognised as one of the game's biggest personalities, known for his flamboyant entrances in which the "King of Darts" makes his way to the stage bedecked in jewellery, wearing a crown and cloak and holding a candelabra to the Queen song 'We Are the Champions'. George won several leading major darts tournaments, he won the News of the World Darts Championship twice and appeared in two BDO Darts World Championship finals and was the first full-time exhibition player. Since 1998, George has also worked for the BBC as a co-presenter and promoter of the game in their coverage of darts tournaments. 1981 BDO World Darts Championship
The 1981 Embassy World Darts Championship was the fourth year that the British Darts Organisation had staged a world championship. The field was expanded from 24 to 32 players, the format which would remain for many years. For the third successive year the tournament was staged at Jollees Cabaret Club in Stoke-on-Trent. Eric Bristow was back to defend his title and would face John Lowe the champion of two years previously in the final. The final was the best of nine sets, but there was a break scheduled after three sets where the third-fourth place play-off match would be held. Lowe ran away with the first two sets without dropping a leg and took the first leg in the third set before Bristow finally got onto the scoreboard. The "Crafty Cockney" held on to take that third set to go into the break just one set behind. Luc Marreel
Luc Marreel (born 2 February 1949 – 11 May 2015) was a Belgian professional darts player who competed in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Darts career Marreel played in the BDO World Darts Championship five times. In 1981, he beat Denmark's Jan Larsen in the first round before losing in round two to Tony Brown. In 1982, Marreel beat Alistair Forrester in the first round, but lost in the second round to Sweden's Stefan Lord. In 1983, Marreel again won his first round match, defeating the Welshman Ceri Morgan 2–0 in the opening round but lost 3–0 in the second round again to Lord. Marreel suffered a first round exit in 1984 to America's Rick Ney but reached the second round once more in 1985, beating Dave Lee in round one but was defeated in the second round by 1983 World Champion Keith Deller. 1982 BDO World Darts Championship
The 1982 Embassy World Darts Championship was the fifth year that the British Darts Organisation had staged a world championship. For the fourth successive year, the tournament was staged at Jollees Cabaret Club in Stoke-on-Trent. The event saw Scotland's first World Darts Champion, when Jocky Wilson defeated John Lowe in the final. Wilson was making his first final appearance while Lowe was contesting in his fourth final in five years. Wilson would win the match 5-3 and claim the £6,500 first prize. Alan Evans (darts Player)
David "Alan" Evans (14 June 1949 – 12 April 1999) was a Welsh professional darts player and former World No. 1 who competed in the 1970s and 1980s. Evans was one of the early faces of television darts and had some tournament success in the 1970s, including scoring the first televised 180 in the 1973 Indoor League semi final. By the time that darts had gained major popularity in the early 1980s, Evans's form had faded and he wasn't in the limelight as much as Eric Bristow, John Lowe and Jocky Wilson, all of whom found fame and success from the game. Winmau World Masters
The World Masters is one of the longest-running and most prestigious of the BDO/WDF tournaments, which began in 1974. The tournament is sponsored by darts board manufacturer, Winmau. The World Masters was unusual in darts in that its sets are the best of 3 legs (first to 2) rather than the standard best of 5 legs (first to 3). It was previously the final leg of the BDO's Grand Slam title of televised majors, along with the BDO World Darts Championship, International Darts League and World Darts Trophy, until the latter two tournaments were axed in 2008. The champion is referred to as the World Master. After the collapse of the British Darts Organisation in September 2020, the World Darts Federation announced plans to launch the WDF World Masters. Per Skau
Per Skau (born 22 May 1968) is a former Danish professional darts player. Career At the 1992 Embassy World Championship, Skau defeated Dave Whitcombe in the first round 3–1 only to be knocked out by eventual champion Phil Taylor 3–1 in the second. He repeated this performance in 1996, beating Eric Burden in the first round but losing in the second round to Colin Monk. He also reached the quarterfinals of the 1991 Winmau World Masters, beating Les Delderfield and Mike Gregory before losing to American Dave Kelly. Skau also won a number of open tournaments, winning the Finnish Open in 1991, the Swedish Open and the Swiss Open in 1993 and the German Open in 1994.
