Alison Watt Order of the British Empire, OBE Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, FRSE Royal Scottish Academy, RSA (born 1965) is a Scotland, British painter who first came to national attention while still at college when she won the 1987 BP Portrait Award, Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London, National Portrait Gallery in London. Biography Alison Watt was born in Greenock, Scotland. She graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1988. While still a student, she came to national attention by winning the 1987 BP Portrait Award, John Player Portrait Award and as a result was commissioned to paint a portrait of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, the Queen Mother. Her first works to become well known were dryly painted figurative canvases, often female nudes, in light-filled interiors. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Abbot Hall Art Gallery
Abbot Hall Art Gallery is a museum and gallery in Kendal, England. Abbot Hall was built in 1759 by Colonel George Wilson, the second son of Daniel Wilson of Dallam Tower, a large house and country estate nearby. It was built on the site of the old Abbot’s Hall, roughly where the museum is today. Before the Dissolution of the Monasteries this was where the Abbot or his representative would stay when visiting from the mother house of St Mary's Abbey, York. The architect is unknown. During the early twentieth century the Grade I listed building was dilapidated and has been restored as an art gallery. Abbot Hall was closed to the public while Lakeland Arts carried out a redevelopment of the building and grounds. Reopening is scheduled for May 2023 with an exhibition by Julie Brook. Scottish National Portrait Gallery
The Scottish National Portrait Gallery is an art museum on Queen Street, Edinburgh. The gallery holds the national collections of portraits, all of which are of, but not necessarily by, Scots. It also holds the Scottish National Photography Collection. Since 1889 it has been housed in its red sandstone Gothic revival building, designed by Robert Rowand Anderson and built between 1885 and 1890 to accommodate the gallery and the museum collection of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. The building was donated by John Ritchie Findlay, owner of ''The Scotsman'' newspaper.
