Aline Mare
Aline Mare (aka Aline Psyche Mare) is an American visual artist, performing artist and filmmaker who creates photo-based, hand-finished, multimedia works combine alternative processes and digital technology, remixing nature-based imagery to create surreal compositions that hover between creation and decay. Early life and education Aline Mare was born in 1961 in Bronxville, New York, "into a family of movie and theatre professionals based in New York City." She was named after her great aunt, stage actress and Busby Berkeley film actress, Aline MacMahon. Her paternal grandfather was Arthur Mayer, Arthur L. Mayer, a motion-picture exhibitor, distributor, lecturer, and film historian. Mare completed her undergraduate work at SUNY Buffalo's Center for Media Study. The Kitchen
The Kitchen is a non-profit, multi-disciplinary avant-garde performance and experimental art institution located at 512 West 19th Street, between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. It was founded in Greenwich Village in 1971 by Steina and Woody Vasulka, who were frustrated at the lack of an outlet for video art. The space takes its name from the original location, the kitchen of the Mercer Arts Center which was the only available place for the artists to screen their video pieces. Although first intended as a location for the exhibition of video art, The Kitchen soon expanded its mission to include other forms of art and performance. Franklin Furnace, also known as the Franklin Mine, is a famous mineral location for rare zinc, iron, manganese minerals in old mines in Franklin, New Jersey, United States. Just Another Asshole
Just Another Asshole was a no wave mixed media publication project launched from the Lower East Side of Manhattan from 1978 to 1987. Barbara Ess organized and edited seven issues of Just Another Asshole, which formed thanks to an open, collaborative submission process. Issues 3 and 4 were co-edited by Jane M. Sherry and issues 5 through 7 were co-edited by Glenn Branca. Issue formats include: zine, LP record, large format tabloid, magazine, exhibition catalog, and paperback book. Just Another Asshole #1 and #2: The Zines Barbara Ess edited the first two installments of Just Another Asshole alone; these photocopied zines utilized intermingling high contrast compositions of apocalyptic warnings, celebrity close-ups, helicopters, and tabloids. Bradley Eros (born in 1952 in Fairfield, Illinois) is an experimental film director, actor, curator, poet, and performance artist who also makes Musique concrète sound collages, music videos, photographs, live projection performances, works on paper and art objects. ABC No Rio is a collectively-run non-profit arts organization on New York City's Lower East Side. It was founded in 1980 in a squat at 156 Rivington Street, following the eviction of the 1979-80 Real Estate Show. The centre featured an art gallery space, a zine library, a darkroom, a silkscreening studio, and public computer lab. In addition, it played host to a number of radical projects including weekly hardcore punk matinees and the city Food Not Bombs collective. Colab is the commonly used abbreviation of the New York City artists' group Collaborative Projects, which was formed after a series of open meetings between artists of various disciplines. History Colab members came together as a collective in 1977, first using the name Green Corporation, and initially received a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Workshop Grant through Center for New Art Activities, Inc., a small not-for-profit organization formed in 1974.
