Ali Pourtash
Ali Pourtash is an actor and comedian of Iranian cinema. Having worked in numerous plays, films, TV shows and stage productions in Tehran and in Los Angeles Pourtash was most recently seen in the 2008 film The Stoning of Soraya M. directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh. Other notable roles include the role of Haji firouz, the comedic side-kick to Amoo norooz in the classic holiday special Babak and Friends - A First Norooz. Cyrus Nowrasteh (Persian: سیروس/کوروش نورسته ; ; born September 19, 1956) is an American-Iranian screenwriter, director, and producer of film and television. He has worked on numerous television series and made-for-TV movies including ''The Day Reagan Was Shot, Falcon Crest, Into the West,'' and the controversial docudrama ''The Path to 9/11.'' He has also directed the theatrical features ''The Stoning of Soraya M.'' (2009), ''The Young Messiah'' (2016), and ''Infidel'' (2020). Early life and education Nowrasteh was born on 19 September 1956, in Boulder, Colorado, and grew up in Madison, Wisconsin. Haji Firouz
Hāji Firuz ('' fa, حاجی فیروز'') or Khwāje Piruz ('' fa, خواجه پیروز'') is a fictional character in Iranian folklore who appears in the streets by the beginning of Nowruz. His face is covered in soot, and he is clad in bright red clothes and a felt hat. He dances through the streets while singing and playing a tambourine. Etymology ''Haji'', as written with the eighth letter of Perso-Arabic alphabet (), has a meaning unrelated to that of the word ''Hajji''; it is a form of address, much like using ''sir'' to address a person in English, without the person being a knight. Amoo Norooz
Amu Nowruz ( fa, عمو نوروز, "Uncle Nowruz"), also known as Baba Nowruz (بابا نوروز), is a legendary character originating in Iranian folklore. According to the folklore, he appears annually at the beginning of spring, together with his companion Haji Firuz, to mark the beginning of Nowruz, the Iranian New Year. According to some historians he symbolizes Zal, father of Rostam, the hero of Shahnameh. Babak And Friends
''Babak and Friends - A First Norooz'' is a direct-to-DVD animated film by Norooz Productions, later renamed Big Bad Boo Studios. The 33-minute cartoon was released in 2005. The film was made to teach children about the Persian New Year Norooz, celebrating the coming of spring and is about a little boy named Babak who is stuck between being Iranian and being American. Through a dream and magical visit by Amoo norooz, Babak learns to be proud of his heritage and celebrates the New Year with his family. The movie was produced by Aly Jetha, Shabnam Rezaei, Matt Hullum, Dustin Ellis, and Mastaneh Moghadam, and written and directed by Dustin Ellis. The Noor Iranian Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Los Angeles, California, founded by cultural producer Siamak Ghahremani and co-founder Anthony Azizi in 2007.
