Algeria At The 2022 Mediterranean Games
Algeria competed at the 2022 Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria over 10 days from 25 June to 5 July 2022 with delegation of 522 persons (324 athletes in 24 sports), including 293 men and 182 women. The country finished the Games with 53 medals amongst all nations: 20 gold, 17 silver, and 16 bronze. This is the best participation in the history of Algeria, breaking the number of the 2001 Mediterranean Games. The sports with the most medals were Athletics, Karate and Boxing. The first medals Algeria earned were in Karate, where Algeria won six medals, including four golds by Cylia Ouikene, Louiza Abouriche and Chaima Midi for women's and Oussama Zaid for men's. In Boxing, Algeria participated with fifteen men's and women's boxers, 13 of whom won medals including five golds through Jugurtha Ait Bekka, Roumaysa Boualam, Hadjila Khelif, Imane Khelif and Yahia Abdelli. Koceila Julien Mammeri (born 23 February 1999) is a French-Algerian badminton player who trained at the Oullins club in France. In the junior event, he was the third place at the Portugal International tournament in the boys' doubles event. He won gold medals at the 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 African Championships for men's doubles with his partner Youcef Sabri Medel, and in 2018 and 2019 for mixed doubles with Linda Mazri, and also in 2021 and 2022 for mixed doubles with Tanina Mammeri. Jaouad Syoud (born 17 September 1999) is an Algerian swimmer. He is a two-time gold medalist at the African Games. Abdelkrim Ouakali (born March 19, 1993) is an Algerian Greco-Roman wrestler. He was the winner of the 2019 African Games Greco-Roman 77 kg category. In 2021, he competed at the 2021 African & Oceania Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament hoping to qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Bachir Sid Azara (born 3 March 1996) is an Algerian Greco-Roman wrestler. At the African Wrestling Championships he won a total of eight medals: five gold medals and three silver medals. He is also a gold medalist at the 2019 African Games, the 2022 Mediterranean Games and the 2023 African Games.
