Algerian Olympic and Sport Committee ( ar, اللجنة الأولمبية و الرياضية الجزائرية, french: Comité Olympique et Sportif Algérien) (IOC code: ALG) is the National Olympic Committee representing Algeria. It was created on October 18, 1963, and recognized by the International Olympic Committee on January 27, 1964. History On October 23, 1963, Mohand-Amokrane Maouche, president of the Algerian Football Federation is elected president of the Algerian Olympic Committee by members of the Executive Board. The International Olympic Committee recognizes the Algerian Olympic Committee on January 27, 1964, on the occasion of the 62nd session held during the 1964 Winter Olympic Games, IXth Winter Olympic Games in Innsbruck (Austria). Algeria first competed at the Olympic Games in 1964, and has participated in every Summer Olympic Games since then, except for the boycotted 1976 Summer Olympics. A National Olympic Committee (NOC) is a national constituent of the worldwide Olympic movement. Subject to the controls of the International Olympic Committee, NOCs are responsible for organizing their people's participation in the Olympic Games. Algeria At The Paralympics
Algeria made its Paralympic Games début at the 1992 Summer Paralympics in Barcelona, sending two competitors in athletics, and a goalball team. The country has taken part in every edition of the Summer Paralympics since then, but has never participated in the Winter Paralympics. Algerians have won a total of 38 medals at the Paralympic Games, of which 15 gold, 7 silver and 16 bronze. 1964 Winter Olympic Games
The 1964 Winter Olympics, officially known as the IX Olympic Winter Games (german: IX. Olympische Winterspiele) and commonly known as Innsbruck 1964 ( bar, Innschbruck 1964, label=Austro-Bavarian), was a winter multi-sport event which was celebrated in Innsbruck, Austria, from January 29 to February 9, 1964. The Algerian Football Federation (AFF); ( ar, الاتحادية الجزائرية لكرة القدم) is the governing body of football in Algeria. It was formed in 1962 and was based in the capital Algiers. It has jurisdiction on the Algerian football league system and is in charge of the men's and women's national teams. Although an unofficial national team had played fixtures since 1958, the first recognized international took place in January 1963, some six months after independence.
