Alfredo Olivera
Alfredo F. Olivera (9 March 1908 – unknown) was a Uruguayan chess player, five-time Uruguayan Chess Championship winner (1937, 1944, 1947, 1957, 1963). Biography From the late 1930s to the mid-1960s, Alfredo Olivera was one of Uruguayan leading chess players. He was multiple participant in the Uruguayan Chess Championships, where he won champion title in 1937, 1944, 1947, 1957, and 1963. Also Alfredo Olivera was participant of a number of major international tournaments: Montevideo (Montevideo 1938 chess tournament, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1953, 1956, 1959), Mar del Plata (1948, 1956, 1958), Hollywood, Los Angeles, Hollywood (1945), Atlántida, Uruguay, Atlántida (1960). Bent Larsen
Jørgen Bent Larsen (4 March 1935 – 9 September 2010) was a Danish chess grandmaster and author. Known for his imaginative and unorthodox style of play, he was the second strongest non-Soviet player, behind Bobby Fischer, for much of the 1960s and 1970s. He is considered to be the strongest player born in Denmark and the strongest from Scandinavia until the emergence of Magnus Carlsen. Larsen was a six-time Danish Champion and a Candidate for the World Chess Championship on four occasions, reaching the semifinal three times. He had multiple wins over all seven World Champions who held the title from 1948 to 1985: Mikhail Botvinnik, Vasily Smyslov, Mikhail Tal, Tigran Petrosian, Boris Spassky, Bobby Fischer, and Anatoly Karpov, but lifetime negative scores against them. The 8th Chess Olympiad ( es, La 8a Olimpíada de ajedrez, link=no), organised by the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE), comprised an open tournament, as well as a Women's World Championship contest. The main team event took place between August 21 and September 19, 1939, in the in Buenos Aires, Argentina and coincided with the outbreak of World War II. Following the end of the 8th Olympiad, the Chess Olympiad was suspended indefinitely due to economic concerns in conjunction with World War II; the next Chess Olympiad would not be held until 1950. The Chess Olympiad is a biennial chess tournament in which teams representing nations of the world compete. FIDE organises the tournament and selects the host nation. Atlántida, Uruguay
Atlántida is a resort town of the Costa de Oro in Canelones Department of Uruguay, east of Montevideo. Atlántida is also the name of the municipality to which the town belongs and which includes a few more resort towns to the north and to the west of the town, i.e. Estación Atlántida, City Golf, Villa Argentina, Fortín de Santa Rosa and rural areas to their north. Location The resort is located on Ruta Interbalnearia, near the junction with Route 11.
