Alfredo Boulton
Alfredo Boulton (1908–1995) was a Venezuelan artist, critic, and art historian. As an art historian and critic, he is known for publishing a comprehensive history of Venezuelan art. Boulton was also an active photographer; his work is held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Life and work Boultan was born in 1908 in Caracas to a wealthy merchant family. While in Europe, he studied the photography of Man Ray, who had a significant influence on his early work. This early photography was often surrealist, making use of collage and photo essay formats. After returning to Venezuela, Boulton's work turned toward depicting and engaging with his home country. He was one of the first photographers to document the Venezuelan landscape and people, inventing the term ''belleza criolla'' to describe “the exuberant beauty of our race” (the Venezuelan mixture of indigenous, white, and black backgrounds). Caracas
Caracas (, ), officially Santiago de León de Caracas, abbreviated as CCS, is the capital and largest city of Venezuela, and the center of the Metropolitan Region of Caracas (or Greater Caracas). Caracas is located along the Guaire River in the northern part of the country, within the Caracas Valley of the Venezuelan coastal mountain range (Cordillera de la Costa). Francisco Narváez
Francisco José Narváez (4 October 1905, Porlamar – 13 July 1982, Caracas) was a Venezuelan sculptor and painter who is perhaps best known for "Las Toninas", a sculptural group that decorates the fountain of the Plaza O'Leary in Caracas. His work is characterized by a strong ethnic component and he made extensive use of local materials. Life and works Narváez was the son of a cabinetmaker and restorer. While he was still very young, the family moved to Caracas and he began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1928, he left for Paris where he attended the Académie Julian and established connections with the artistic community in Montparnasse. He returned to Venezuela in 1931 and, a few years later, began to work with the architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva, who commissioned him to supply sculptures for his projects, including the Plaza of Carabobo Park, the facade for the Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Natural Sciences and the Plaza O'Leary. Art Critics
An art critic is a person who is specialized in analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating art. Their written critiques or reviews contribute to art criticism and they are published in newspapers, magazines, books, exhibition brochures, and catalogues and on websites. Some of today's art critics use art blogs and other online platforms in order to connect with a wider audience and expand debate about art. Differently from art history, there is not an institutionalized training for art critics (with only few exceptions); art critics come from different backgrounds and they may or may not be university trained. Alexander Calder
Alexander Calder (; July 22, 1898 – November 11, 1976) was an American sculptor known both for his innovative mobiles (kinetic sculptures powered by motors or air currents) that embrace chance in their aesthetic, his static "stabiles", and his monumental public sculptures.
