Alfred Mowbray Hutton was an architect in Australia. Some of his works are heritage-listed. Early life Alfred Mowbray Hutton was born in Victoria. Architectural practice Hutton practiced in Victoria before moving to Rockhampton, Queensland, in mid-1894 to take over the practice of James Flint, to whom he was related by marriage. He designed a hotel for JM Headrick & Co at Lake's Creek the following year. Hutton practiced widely in Rockhampton, both as a sole practitioner and in partnership with Edwin Morton Hockings, which lasted from 1898 until 1904. James Flint (architect)
James Flint was a British and Australian architect. A number of his works are heritage-listed. Early life Flint was born in 1862 in Eppleworth, Hull, Yorkshire, England, the son of James Flint . Architectural career Flint was articled to the Manchester firm of architects and building surveyors, Sherwood and Peverley. He had then moved to London and practiced there for a period of about eighteen months. Following this period of work, Flint emigrated, arriving in Victoria in December 1883, and entered into partnership with Mr Horsley in Melbourne. In 1887 he moved to Rockhampton to practice as an architect and surveyor. He took up offices in Central Chambers in East Street. At this time he and John William Wilson were the main architects active in Rockhampton. In the booming economy of Rockhampton and Mount Morgan Flint designed several notable buildings. Edwin Morton Hockings
Edwin Morton (Ted) Hockings (1870–1942) was an architect in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia. A number of his buildings are now heritage listed. Early life Edwin Morton Hockings was born in 1870, the son of Albert John Hockings (one of the early mayors of Brisbane) and his wife Elizabeth (née Bailey). Edwin Hockings was educated at Brisbane Grammar School. Architectural career Hockings became the articled pupil of architect Richard Gailey. In 1890 Hockings won a design competition for the Rockhampton Girls Grammar School. Though Gailey's firm took over the final design work, Hockings departed to Rockhampton as the firm's clerk of works. In 1895 he was elected an Associate of the Queensland Institute of Architects, and thereafter commenced his own practice in Rockhampton from where he made his design mark throughout Central Queensland.
