Edwin Morton Hockings
Edwin Morton (Ted) Hockings (1870–1942) was an architect in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia. A number of his buildings are now heritage listed. Early life Edwin Morton Hockings was born in 1870, the son of Albert John Hockings (one of the early mayors of Brisbane) and his wife Elizabeth (née Bailey). Edwin Hockings was educated at Brisbane Grammar School. Architectural career Hockings became the articled pupil of architect Richard Gailey. In 1890 Hockings won a design competition for the Rockhampton Girls Grammar School. Though Gailey's firm took over the final design work, Hockings departed to Rockhampton as the firm's clerk of works. In 1895 he was elected an Associate of the Queensland Institute of Architects, and thereafter commenced his own practice in Rockhampton from where he made his design mark throughout Central Queensland. Rockhampton is a city in the Rockhampton Region of Central Queensland, Australia. The population of Rockhampton in June 2021 was 79,967, Estimated resident population, 30 June 2018. making it the fourth-largest city in the state outside of the cities of South East Queensland, and the 22nd-largest city in Australia. Beatrice May Hutton
Beatrice May Hutton (1893–1990), also known as Bea Hutton was an Australian architect. On 30 October 1916, she became the first female to be accepted into an institute of architects in Australia. This followed the rejection of earlier female applicants, including Florence Taylor in 1907, on the grounds of being female. Life and work Born 16 July 1893 at The Folly, Lakes Creek, central Queensland, Beatrice Hutton was the second of seven children of a grazier and surveyor Falconer West Hutton and Clara Susannah, née Holt. Her early life was spent on the family property at Comet Down. Drought forced the family off the land in 1902 and they moved to Rockhampton in 1906 where she was educated at Rockhampton Grammar School. St Peter's Anglican Church and Hall is a heritage-listed church at 85 Elm Street, Barcaldine, Barcaldine Region, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Edwin Hockings and built in 1899. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History St Peter's Anglican Church is a substantial timber church located prominently in Barcaldine and was dedicated on 28 October 1899. Barcaldine was established in 1886 with the arrival of the railway, although the area had previously been settled as a pastoral district centred on Blackall. From 1861 to 2020, ''The Morning Bulletin'' was published as a print edition, before then becoming an exclusively online newspaper. The final print edition was published on 27 June 2020.
