Alfred Lutwyche
Justice Alfred James Peter Lutwyche, Queen's Counsel (26 February 1810 – 12 June 1880) was the first judge of the Supreme Court Bench of Queensland. Early life Lutwyche was the eldest son of John Lutwyche, of a Worcestershire family, who removed to London and started as a leather merchant, under the firm of Lutwyche & George, in Skinner Street, Snow Hill. Lutwyche was educated at Charterhouse School and at the Queen's College, Oxford, where he matriculated in 1828 and graduated B.A. in 1832, and subsequently M.A. While still at university, he had decided to pursue a career in law and became a student at the Middle Temple in London. After working in the legal areas of conveyancing and special pleadings, Lutwyche was called to the bar in May 1840. As a barrister, he went on the Oxford circuit. Solicitor General For New South Wales
Solicitor General for New South Wales, known informally as the Solicitor General, is one of the Law Officers of the Crown, and the deputy of the Attorney General. They can exercise the powers of the Attorney General in the Attorney General's absence. The Solicitor General acts alongside the Crown Advocate, and Crown Solicitor, and serves as one of the legal and constitutional advisers of the Crown and its government in the Australian state of New South Wales. The Solicitor General is addressed in court as "Mr Solicitor" or "Ms Solicitor". Kedron Lodge is a heritage-listed villa at 123 Nelson Street, Kalinga (formerly in Wooloowin), City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by architect Christopher Porter and was built from 1860 to the early 1900s by John Petrie. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History Kedron Lodge was one of the first Brisbane dwellings designed by architect Christopher Porter. It was built by John Petrie, for the first judge of the Queensland Supreme Court, Alfred James Lutwyche (1810–1880). The judge had purchased portion 18 of for in January 1860. He established a very viable farm and orchard, and built stables to satisfy his horse-racing interests. Wooloowin is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Wooloowin had a population of 3,938 people. Geography Wooloowin is an inner-north suburb of Brisbane, Australia located approximately 5–6 km north of the city's central business district. History The origin of the suburb's name has been attributed to either the local Indigenous Australian term for a pigeon or the term for a species of fish. It was the home of Brisbane's first Resident Judge, Alfred Lutwyche, who lived in Kedron Lodge. Holy Cross Primary School opened in 1889. A stump-capping ceremony for Wooloowin Methodist Church was held on Saturday 30 November 1901. The site was on Old Sandgate Road at the junction with Bayview Terrace (now 170 Bonney Avenue). James Cockle
Sir James Cockle FRS FRAS FCPS (14 January 1819 – 27 January 1895) was an English lawyer and mathematician. Cockle was born on 14 January 1819. He was the second son of James Cockle, a surgeon, of Great Oakley, Essex. Educated at Charterhouse and Trinity College, Cambridge, he entered the Middle Temple in 1838, practising as a special pleader in 1845 and being called in 1846. Joining the midland circuit, he acquired a good practice, and on the recommendation of Chief Justice Sir William Erle he was appointed as the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland in Queensland, Australia on 21 February 1863; he served until his retirement on 24 June 1879. Cockle was made a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) on 1 June 1865. He received the honour of knighthood on 29 July 1869. He returned to England in 1878. Moreton Bay
Moreton Bay is a bay located on the eastern coast of Australia from central Brisbane, Queensland. It is one of Queensland's most important coastal resources. The waters of Moreton Bay are a popular destination for recreational anglers and are used by commercial operators who provide seafood to market. The Port of Brisbane coordinates large traffic along the shipping channel which crosses the northern section of the bay. The bay serves as a safe approach to the airport and reduces noise pollution over the city to the west of the runway. A number of barge, ferry and water-taxi services also travel over the bay.
