Alfred Fedetsky
Alfred Fedetsky ( uk, Альфред Костянтинович Федецький, 1857, Zhytomyr, Russian Empire, now Ukraine, — 21 July 1902, Minsk, Russian Empire, now Belarus) was a prominent photographer and filmmaker in the Russian Empire. He was of Polish descent. He authored numerous portraits of notable Russian people (Aivazovsky, Tchaikovsky, John of Kronstadt, among many others) as well as members of the Imperial family. He was the personal photographer of Duchess Alexandra Petrovna of Oldenburg. Alfred Fedetsky was born in 1857 in Zhytomyr, Volhynian Governorate (now Ukraine). He finished Imperial Photographic Institute at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Afterwards Alfred Fedetsky moved to Kyiv Governorate in 1880. Six years later he moved to Kharkiv. Zhytomyr ( uk, Жито́мир, translit=Zhytomyr ; russian: Жито́мир, Zhitomir ; pl, Żytomierz ; yi, זשיטאָמיר, Zhitomir; german: Schytomyr ) is a city in the north of the western half of Ukraine. Grand Duchess Alexandra Petrovna of Russia (russian: Алекса́ндра Петро́вна Ольденбу́ргская, tr. ; Born Duchess Alexandra Frederica Wilhelmina of Oldenburg; 2 June 1838 – 25 April 1900) was a great-granddaughter of Emperor Paul I of Russia and the wife of Grand Duke Nicholas Nikolaevich of Russia, the elder. Born Duchess Alexandra of Oldenburg, she was the eldest daughter of Duke Peter of Oldenburg and his wife Princess Therese of Nassau-Weilburg. She grew up in Russia in close proximity to the Romanovs as her father was a nephew of Tsar Nicholas I of Russia. Alexandra's parents were artistically gifted and passionate philanthropists.
