Alfred Charles Post
Alfred Charles Post (January 13, 1806 – February 7, 1886) was an American surgeon. Post was born in New York City. He graduated from Columbia College in 1822 and from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1827, studied in Paris, Vienna, Berlin, and London (1827–29). Post was professor in the Castleton Medical College (of ophthalmic surgery, 1842–44, and of surgery, 1844-51), professor of surgery in New York University (1851–75), emeritus professor (1875–86), and president of the medical faculty (1873–86). Castleton, Vermont
Castleton is a town in Rutland County, Vermont, United States. Castleton is about to the west of Rutland, the county's seat and most populous city, and about east of the New York/Vermont state border. The town had a population of 4,458 at the 2020 census. Castleton University is located there, with roots dating to 1787. History Castleton was settled in 1770, and chartered in 1761. The charter for of land was granted by Governor Benning Wentworth of New Hampshire and divided the land into 70 "rights" or "shares". Governor Wentworth retained ownership of two shares, and several others were given for churches and a school. Three families had settled in Castleton by 1770. The New York Academy of Medicine (the Academy) is a health policy and advocacy organization founded in 1847 by a group of leading New York metropolitan area physicians as a voice for the medical profession in medical practice and public health reform. George Edward Post (1838–1909) was an American surgeon, academic and botanist. Biography George Edward Post was born in New York City on December 17, 1838, the son of Alfred Charles Post. He was a Professor of Surgery at the Syrian Protestant College in Beirut, which became the American University of Beirut (AUB).
