Alf Magne Austad
Alf Magne Austad (28 March 1946 – 17 August 2013) was a Norwegian painter. Born in Haugesund, he studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry, the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts, the Royal Institute of Art and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. He taught at the Western Norway Academty of Arts from 1980, and was its rector from 1982. As a painter, he subscribed to realist painting from the 1970s, inspired by pop art, photographic realism and surrealism. He participated four times at the Autumn Exhibition and his works have been bought, among others, by the National Gallery of Norway, Riksgalleriet and the Arts Council Norway. Haugesund () is a municipality on the North Sea in Rogaland county, Norway. While the population is greater in the neighboring Karmøy municipality, the main commercial and economic centre of the Haugaland region in northern Rogaland and southern Vestland is in Haugesund. Ski () is a town and former "kommune" (municipality) in the new municipality (January 1. 2020) Nordre Follo in the greater region Follo, in Viken ''fylke'' (county), Norway. Ski is the most populous and largest town in Follo, and serves as the ''de facto'' municipality center of Nordre Follo municipality. Institutions like the hospital, tingrett (district court), police station, and other regional public services, are located in and around the town of Ski. Etymology The municipality of Ski inherited its name from the town of Ski, upon being instated as a separate municipality, with the town as its administrative centre. The town of Ski is named after a large farm called Skeidi (Old Norse: ''Skeiði''). The word ''skeiði'' is a side form of ''skeið'', meaning "running track for horse racing" - suggesting that there may have been such a track at the farm in medieval times.
