Alf Jones (footballer, Born 1861)
Alfred George Jones (c. February 1861 β c. November 1935) was an English association football, footballer who played as a full back (association football), full back. He was born in Walsall and represented the England national football team three times. Career Jones was born in Walsall and played junior football in the Walsall area before signing with Walsall Swifts F.C., Walsall Swifts, going on to become the club's first player to gain international recognition. His first cap came on 11 March 1882 against Scotland national football team, Scotland. Scotland won the match 5β1, with England's consolation goal coming from Howard Vaughton. Despite the size of the defeat, Jones was retained in defence for the next international match against Wales national football team, Wales two days later. Bolton
Bolton (, locally ) is a large town in Greater Manchester in North West England, formerly a part of Lancashire. 1889β90 Football Alliance
The 1889β90 Football Alliance was the first season of the Football Alliance, an association football league which was set up in England as an alternative to The Football League, which had begun in the 1888β89 in English football, 1888β89 season. A proposal that the Football League be expanded to 24 teams was rejected, so a new league was formed to cater for those excluded. Twelve clubs were accepted for membership, the same number as in the Football League, and they were drawn from a similar geographical area, stretching from the English Midlands, Midlands to the North West England, North West, but also further east in Sheffield, Grimsby and Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, Sunderland. Alex McLintock
Alexander McLintock (1853 β 17 May 1931) was a Scottish international footballer who initially played as a defender, but was used as a goalkeeper in the latter stages of his career. He started his career with Vale of Leven and was a part of the side that won three successive Scottish Cup victories. He later played in England with Burnley. Personal life McLintock was born in 1853 in Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire and during his early years he worked as a tinsmith. After his retirement from football in 1885, he owned a public house in Burnley before returning to Scotland to resume his original trade as a tinsmith. He died on 17 May 1931, aged 77. Club career McLintock's senior football career started in his early twenties when he signed for Vale of Leven in 1874. He played for the club for the next ten years, regularly appearing for the first team at half-back and full-back.
