Slavic Languages
The Slavic languages, also known as the Slavonic languages, are Indo-European languages spoken primarily by the Slavic peoples and their descendants. They are thought to descend from a proto-language called Proto-Slavic, spoken during the Early Middle Ages, which in turn is thought to have descended from the earlier Proto-Balto-Slavic language, linking the Slavic languages to the Baltic languages in a Balto-Slavic group within the Indo-European family. Aleš Ušeničnik
Aleš Ušeničnik (3 July 1868 – 30 March 1952) was a Slovene Roman Catholic priest, philosopher, sociologist and theologian. He was one of the main philosophers of neo-Thomism in Slovenia and in Yugoslavia. Ušeničnik was born in the village of Poljane near the Upper Carniolan town of Škofja Loka, in what was then the Austro-Hungarian Empire (now in Slovenia). He studied theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. In 1897, he became a professor at the Theological Seminary in Ljubljana. In 1919, he became a professor at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Ljubljana, where he taught philosophy. In 1922 and 1923, he served as the fourth chancellor of the University of Ljubljana. In 1937, he became a member of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas and in 1938 one of the founding members of the Academy of Sciences and Arts in Ljubljana (later renamed the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts). Aleš Pipan (born 24 May 1959) is a Slovenian basketball coach and former basketball player, who is currently coach of KK Šentjur, Šentjur in the Premier A Slovenian Basketball League, Liga Nova KBM. Coaching career Pipan coached Slovenia at the EuroBasket 2005, 2006 FIBA World Championship and EuroBasket 2007 until resignation in 2008, when Slovenia didn't make through additional qualifications for 2008 Summer Olympics. Aleš Pařez (born April 9, 1981) is an ex-professional ice hockey player and strength & conditioning coach. Pařez began playing hockey in North America at Wyoming Seminary (Kingston, PA), a boarding school he attended for four years. After graduating high school, Parez spent time in two American Junior programs: first with the Bismarck Bobcats (NAHL) and then with the Chicago Steel of the USHL. In his one and only season with Chicago, Parez managed more than 40 points in just over 60 games. Parez then played hockey at NCAA level for the University of Alaska Anchorage and featured in 120 games over the four years he spent there, totaling almost 80 points. After his university-level career ended, Parez went through an unsuccessful rookie camp of the Washington Capitals. Aleš Križan
Aleš Križan (born 25 July 1971) is a retired Slovenian football defender. Križan most notably played in England for Barnsley having joined from Maribor. He played in the 1997–98 Premier League with the South Yorkshire club, appearing in 12 matches as a starter. However, they were relegated after that season and he only played one more league game in the next two seasons for Barnsley after John Hendrie became the manager and also after breaking a leg at the beginning of season. He left the team in 2000, shortly after his teammates lost the playoff final to Ipswich Town.
