Alexis Rufus
Alexis Rufus (born 28 April 1979) is an English Muay Thai kickboxer who competes in the bantamweight and featherweight divisions. Having turned professional in 2005, Rufus is a two-time European and five-time world champion. Early life Alexis Rufus was raised with two brothers and has described herself as a tomboy growing up. She was involved in numerous sports in her childhood and, at eighteen, began studying fine art sculpture at university and then worked in the London art industry for ten years. She began training in Muay Thai when a friend suggested it as an alternative to normal workouts. Career Having begun her professional career in 2005, Alexis Rufus suffered her first loss in a full contact kickboxing match on 7 April 2007 when she dropped a unanimous decision to Tracey Renow in Hove, England. A submission is a combat sports term for yielding to the opponent, and hence resulting in an immediate defeat. The submission – then also referred to as a "tap out" or "tapping out" – is often performed by visibly tapping the floor or the opponent with the hand or in some cases with the foot, or by saying the word "tap" to signal the opponent and/or the referee of the submission. World Muaythai Council
The World Muaythai Council (WMC) is one of the oldest and the largest professional sanctioning organizations of Muaythai in the world for the sport. The organization was set up in 1995 by parliament resolution, and is incorporated by the Royal Thai Government and sanctioned by the Sports Authority of Thailand, under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. The council has been charged with the responsibility for the expansion of Muaythai worldwide. This involves supporting youth interest and athletes to learn the skills of Muaythai. The World Kickboxing Association (WKA) also known as World Kickboxing and Karate Association, is one of the oldest and the largest amateur and professional sanctioning body for kickboxing and Karate. Joanne Wood (; born 23 December 1986) is a Scottish professional mixed martial artist and former Muay Thai champion who competed in the Women's Flyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Biography Wood first started Muay Thai training by accident. When she was 13, her younger brother was meant to go to a class with his friend, who did not turn up. Her mother asked her to go to keep him company. She fell in love with it and begged her mother to allow her to give up competitive swimming to do the two classes each week. Lorena Klijn (born September 20, 1987) is a Dutch kickboxer who competes in the flyweight and bantamweight divisions. Career Lorena Klijn rose to prominence by winning the World Professional Kickboxing League (WPKL) Women's World Flyweight Championship and garnering an unbeaten record of 17-0. She challenged for another world title on March 19, 2011 when she took on Alexis Rufus for the IKF Women's World Bantamweight (-55.45 kg/122.2 lb) Muay Thai title in London, England. The first two rounds were close but Rufus began to pull away in the third and inflicted Klijn's first defeat by unanimous decision.
