Alexandros Varitimiadis
Alexandros Varitimiadis (; 21 June 1994 – 7 May 2023) was a Greek professional basketball player for Raiffeisen Dornbirn Lions of the Basketball Zweite Liga. He was a tall power forward who could also play as a small forward. Professional career Varitimiadis began his pro career with the Greek 1st Division club PAOK in 2012. In 2013, he was loaned to Filippos Verias, which was playing in the Greek 2nd Division at the time. In 2014, he joined the Greek club Aries Trikala. After the appointment of Giannis Kastritis as the head coach, he renewed his contract for one more season. Giannitsa ( el, Γιαννιτσά , in English also Yannitsa, Yenitsa) is the largest city in the regional unit of Pella and the capital of the Pella municipality, in the region of Central Macedonia in northern Greece. The municipal unit Giannitsa has an area of 208.105 km2. Its population is 31,983 people (2011 census). This is a list of notable basketball players who died while still on a team roster or as a free agent. A majority died of accidents such as car or plane crashes. Some suffered sudden cardiac death, which has a higher incidence in basketball among young athletes. Some suffered from the heart condition hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is more common in African Americans. Basketball has a considerably higher ratio of African-Americans than other sports. Other deaths were caused by drug abuse. Included are players in the NBA, college, and other leagues. Players who died following the conclusion of their career should not be included. Svenska Basketligan, or the Swedish Basketball League (SBL), is the premier league for professional basketball in Sweden. The league was originally established in 1992 as Basketligan and was known as that prior to the season of 2006–07, but when the Swedish company Obol Investment signed an agreement with the Swedish Basketball Federation in early October 2006, the league was renamed Obol Basketball League (OBL). In January 2007 the name was changed to Ligan, meaning simply the League. History On October 6, 2006, the Swedish Basketball Federation signed a 15-year agreement with Swiss company Obol Investment. Part of the deal was that ''Basketligan'' would be renamed ''Obol Basketball League''. Ioannis Kastritis (alternate spelling: Giannis) (Greek: Ιωάννης Καστρίτης; born April 4, 1982) is a Greek former basketball player and professional basketball coach. He is the current head coach for Aris Thessaloniki of the Greek Basket League and the FIBA Europe Cup. Coaching career Clubs Kastritis played basketball with G.S. Arkadias, Arkadikos and Panachaiki before starting his basketball coaching career as an assistant in Apoloniada. He was the assistant coach of Yannis Christopoulos at Olympiada Patras, in the 2006–07 and 2007–08 seasons. From 2009 to 2012, he was the assistant coach in Arkadikos.
