Alexander Skinner (politician)
Alexander James Skinner (2 November 1910 – 3 October 1968) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Skinner was born at Boonah, Queensland, the son of William Skinner and his wife Fanny Elizabeth (née Thomas). He attended school at Boonah and Ipswich, and became a fitter and turner at the Ipswich Railway Workshops. He was later costs clerk at the Main Roads Department. Somerset was an Queensland Legislative Assembly electoral districts, electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1950 to 1992. Its area was mostly inherited from the abolished district of Electoral district of Stanley (Queensland), Stanley, located in the upper Brisbane River valley. It was named after Lake Somerset. Somerset was mostly a safe National Party of Australia – Queensland, Country/National party seat, although was won by Australian Labor Party (Queensland Branch), Labor in the 1953 Queensland state election, 1953 election. Queensland Legislative Assembly
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). There is approximately the same population in each electorate; however, that has not always been the case (in particular, a malapportionment system - not, strictly speaking, a gerrymander - dubbed the ''Bjelkemander'' was in effect during the 1970s and 1980s). Vince Gair
Vincent Clair Gair (25 February 190111 November 1980) was an Australian politician. He served as Premier of Queensland from 1952 until 1957, when his stormy relations with the trade union movement saw him expelled from the Labor Party. He was elected to the Australian Senate and led the Democratic Labor Party from 1965 to 1973. In 1974 he was appointed Australian Ambassador to Ireland by the Whitlam government, which caused his expulsion from the DLP. Early life Gair was born in Rockhampton to John Alexander and Catherine Mary Gair, a Scottish father and an Irish mother, and raised a Catholic. His parents were founding members of the Labor Party in Queensland in the 1890s. He began work with the Department of Railways upon the family's move to Dutton Park, Queensland. In 1916 he joined the Labor Party. He married Florence Glynn in 1924. She died in an accident five years later. Duncan MacDonald (politician)
Duncan MacDonald (30 June 1885 – 28 September 1977) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography MacDonald was born at Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland, the son of Thomas Duncan MacDonald Snr and his wife Christina (née McLean). He was educated at the Glasgow Academy University of Edinburgh and after arriving in Queensland in 1908 took up a variety of bush related jobs. He became the manager of a sugar plantation and then an inspector with the Bureau of Sugar Experiment stations. In his youth, Macdonald was a noted boxer and played first-class rugby union. He was a member of the Queensland Club and a councilor and steward on the Royal National Association.
