Alexander Greenwald
Alexander Greenwald (born October 9, 1979) is an American musician, actor, and record producer. He is the lead vocalist of the California rock band Phantom Planet. Life and career Greenwald was born in Los Angeles, California, to a family of Jewish descent. In 1994, Greenwald formed Phantom Planet in his teens with four friends – guitarist Darren Robinson, bassist Sam Farrar, guitarist Jacques Brautbar, and drummer Jason Schwartzman. The band is best known for producing the song "California", which was used as the theme song of the teen drama ''The O.C.'', which lasted four seasons. Phantom Planet announced their hiatus on November 25, 2008. In 2006, he collaborated with DJ Mark Ronson, to cover the Radiohead song, "Just". The cover appears on the compilation album '' Exit Music: Songs with Radio Heads'', as well as the Mark Ronson album, ''Version''. Phases (formerly known as JJAMZ and pronounced ''juh-jamz'') is an American indie pop band from Los Angeles, California composed of Jason Boesel (Rilo Kiley / Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band), Alex Greenwald (Phantom Planet / Blackblack), Michael Runion, and Z Berg (The Like). Background JJAMZ was started at karaoke night at Guys in Hollywood. The band name is an acronym using the first letter of each member's name. The group was a means of escape from each member's respective bands at a time when things seemed hectic for each member. "JJAMZ started at an interesting time in all of our lives. "California" is a song by American rock band Phantom Planet. It was released as a single from their second album '' The Guest'' in February 2002. The song was first heard on television on episode 8 of the television show '' Fastlane''. Both the song and the band received major attention when it became the theme song on the Fox television show ''The O.C.'' It was also previously in the soundtrack to the film ''Orange County'' and featured on the episode "Milhouse of Sand and Fog" of ''The Simpsons''. Jacques Brautbar (born March 14, 1979) is an United States of America, American composer, photographer, producer, writer and guitarist, formerly of rock music, rock band Phantom Planet. He left the band in 2004, after their Phantom Planet (album), self-titled third album, to pursue a career in photography. Sam John Farrar (born June 29, 1978) is an American musician. He is best known as a member of the pop rock band Maroon 5, in which he plays several instruments, most notably bass guitar.
