Alexander Bell (1801–1871) was a Los Angeles merchant both before and after that city became a part of the United States. Alexander Montgomerie Bell (1808–1866) was a Scottish lawyer and writer on law. Biography He was the son of John Bell, a manufacturer of Paisley, Renfrewshire, Paisley, and was born there 4 December 1809. His older brother was John Montgomerie Bell. He studied at Paisley Grammar School and at the University of Glasgow. In 1835 he was admitted a member of the Society of Writers to Her Majesty's Signet, Society of Writers to the Signet, and in 1856 was appointed professor of conveyancing in the University of Edinburgh. In this chair he distinguished himself by the thoroughness and clearness of his expositions of the law of conveyancing, and by the mastery which he showed over some of the more difficult departments, ignorance of which had been a fruitful source of litigation. Alexander Graham Bell (, born Alexander Bell; March 3, 1847 – August 2, 1922) was a Scottish-born inventor, scientist and engineer who is credited with patenting the first practical telephone. He also co-founded the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) in 1885. Bell's father, grandfather, and brother had all been associated with work on elocution and speech, and both his mother and wife were deaf; profoundly influencing Bell's life's work. His research on hearing and speech further led him to experiment with hearing devices which eventually culminated in Bell being awarded the first U.S. patent for the telephone, on March 7, 1876. Bell considered his invention an intrusion on his real work as a scientist and refused to have a telephone in his study. Alexander Bell (20 July 1850 – 27 March 1931) was a Scottish-born Australian politician. He was born in Dunfermline, Fifeshire to miner Alexander Bell and Sophia Williamson. He was born a month after their wedding in June 1850. He came to Victoria (Australia), Victoria with his family around 1855. He became a grocer in Ballarat, Victoria, Ballarat, owning two stores by 1889. On 2 April 1874 he married Jessie Scott, with whom he had nine children. Around 1892 he became an auctioneer and sharebroker, and he served on City of Ballarat, Ballarat City Council from 1891 to 1899 and from 1910 to 1931, serving twice as mayor (1896–97, 1917–18). In 1917 he won a by-election for Wellington Province (Victoria), Wellington Province in the Victorian Legislative Council, representing the Nationalist Party of Australia, Nationalist Party. Alexander Dunlop Bell (1873–1937) was a businessman who served as the chairman of the Shanghai Shanghai International Settlement, Municipal Council from 1932 to 1934. Life Bell was born on 14 November 1873 in Angus, Scotland. He was the son of Reverend Benjamin Bell and Margaret (Dunlop) Bell. He was educated at Manchester Grammar School and Trinity College, Cambridge, B.A. 1896, M.A. 1900. He married Nora Sunderland in Manchester, England, Manchester on 24 June 1903. Alexander (Alec) Patrick Bell (23 February 1915 – 12 April 1956) was an Argentine born English cricketer and rugby union player. Bell was a right-handed batsman and played centre for the Northampton Saints rugby team. He was born at Rosario, Santa Fe. Bell made three first-class appearances for Northamptonshire in the 1934 County Championship against Worcestershire, Middlesex and Glamorgan. In these three matches, he scored a total of just 37 runs at an average of 6.16, with a high score of 24. He later made thirteen Minor Counties Championship appearances for Hertfordshire between 1946 and 1949. As a rugby player he was a prolific try-scoring centre and captained the Northampton Saints for 3 years from 1943 to 1946. Bell died from a brain trauma at Oxford, Oxfordshire on 12 April 1956. Alexander James Douglas "Lex" Bell OAM (born 13 July 1945) is an Australian politician. Born in Brisbane, he received a Master of Laws from Bond University and a Bachelor of Law from the University of Queensland before becoming a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland. He was also on Gold Coast City Council from 1985–2001, including a period as mayor 1988–1994. He was also a chancellor with the Anglican Catholic Church. On 20 March 2001, former National Party Premier and member for Surfers Paradise Rob Borbidge resigned from the Legislative Assembly of Queensland.
