Alex Wilson (basketball)
Alex Wilson (born 21 March 1994) is an Australian professional basketball player. Career WNBL After gaining national attention as a 16-year-old, Wilson signed as a development player with the Adelaide Lightning for the 2010–11 season, where she would make her WNBL debut. From Adelaide, Wilson would go onto train with the Australian Institute of Sport. In 2014, Wilson was named the WNBL Rookie of the Year whilst playing with the Townsville Fire. In May 2015, after two seasons and a championship in Townsville, Wilson would sign with the Sydney Uni Flames for the 2015–16 season. In her time with Sydney, Wilson would go on to win a second WNBL Championship in 2017. In October 2020, after five years in Sydney, Wilson signed with the Adelaide Lightning for the 2020 season. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL). Several WNBL teams have NBL counterparts. The Adelaide Lightning, Melbourne Boomers, Perth Lynx, Southside Flyers and Sydney Uni Flames are the current WNBL teams sharing a market with an NBL team (the Townsville Fire and University of Canberra Capitals shared a market with the Townsville Crocodiles and Canberra Cannons respectively, before both NBL clubs became defunct). 2022 Commonwealth Games
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth of Nations that took place in Birmingham, England between 28 July and 8 August 2022. Birmingham was announced as host on 21 December 2017. The Games marked England's third time hosting the Commonwealth Games after London 1934 and Manchester 2002, and the 7th Games held in the United Kingdom, with previous events in Wales and Scotland: Cardiff 1958, Edinburgh 1970 and 1986 and Glasgow 2014. 2020 WNBL Season
The 2020 WNBL season was the 41st season of the competition since its establishment in 1981. The Canberra Capitals were the two-time defending champions, but were defeated in the Semi-Finals by Melbourne. The Southside Flyers won the Grand Final, defeating the Townsville Fire, 99–82. The Flyers took home the franchise's fourth WNBL title overall, this being their first since rebranding as ''Southside''. 2015–16 WNBL Season
The 2015–16 WNBL season is the 36th season of competition since its establishment in 1981. A total of 9 teams contested the league. The regular season was played between October 2015 and February 2016, followed by a post-season involving the top four on 28 February to 18 March 2016. The Townsville Fire were the defending champions and they would go on to repeat their run to the WNBL title, defeating the Perth Lynx 2–0 in the final. Sponsorship included Wattle Valley, entering its third year as league naming rights sponsor. Spalding provided equipment including the official game ball, with Peak supplying team apparel. WNBL Youth Player Of The Year Award
The WNBL Youth Player of the Year (formerly the WNBL Rookie of the Year Award) is an annual Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) award given since the 1988 WNBL season. The award underwent a makeover in the 2019–20 season with new criteria seeing Australian players 23 years old or under eligible for Youth Player of the Year, replacing the long-standing Rookie of the Year.
