Alex Perici Calascione (born June 17, 1962) is a Maltese politician and lawyer who currently serves as the deputy leader of the Nationalist Party (PN). He previously served as President of the party's Executive Committee until 2020, and as party treasurer until 2017. The Nationalist Party ( mt, Partit Nazzjonalista, PN) is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Malta, along with the Labour Party. It is a Christian-democratic, and conservative political party, and it has been also described as centrist or centre-right on the political spectrum. It is supportive of Malta's membership in the European Union. It is currently in opposition to the Labour Party. Since independence in 1964, the Nationalist Party has won six out of the thirteen general elections, in 1966, 1987, 1992, 1998 and 2003. Eddie Fenech Adami
Edoardo "Eddie" Fenech Adami, (born 7 February 1934) is a Maltese politician and Nationalist politician who served as the prime minister of Malta from 1987 until 1996, and again from 1998 until 2004. Subsequently, he was the seventh president of Malta from 2004 to 2009. He led his party to win four general elections, in 1987, 1992, 1998 and 2003, as well as the majority of votes in 1981. Staunchly pro-European, Fenech Adami was fundamental for Malta's accession to the European Union. Originally a lawyer, Fenech Adami was co-opted Member of Parliament (MP) in 1969. 2022 Maltese General Election
General elections were held in Malta on 26 March 2022 to elect members of the House of Representatives. The Labour Party (PL), which has governed Malta since 2013, retained its majority in the House of Representatives in the June 2017 election, and Joseph Muscat remained prime minister. Muscat resigned in January 2020, and was succeeded by Robert Abela, and later that year, Bernard Grech succeeded Adrian Delia as the leader of the Nationalist Party. In total, six parties had filed candidates in the general election. The campaign period was noted as the quietest election period in decades. Karin Maria Grech (1962 – 28 December 1977) was the daughter of Professor Edwin Grech, then head of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at St. Luke's Hospital, Malta. In 1977, aged 15, she was killed by a letterbomb addressed to her father. In the presence of her brother Kevin (then 10 years old), she opened the package, which she thought to be a present since it was covered in wrapping paper. The bomb exploded, and she died half an hour later at St. Luke's Hospital, due to severe burns on various parts of her body. Bernard Grech (born 8 June 1971) is a Maltese politician and lawyer who has been the leader of the Nationalist Party since 2020. Early and professional life Grech was born on 8 June 1971, in Paola to John and Frida Grech. He grew up in Birżebbuġa and he graduated as a lawyer, focusing on civil law. Grech practiced his professional activity in two law firms, specializing in the mediation of family disputes. Involvement in politics In 2011, Grech took part in the campaign, which was later lost, against the legalization of divorce in Malta. Not officially involved until then in active roles in politics, he got closer to the positions of the Maltese Nationalist Party in 2018. In August 2020 he stood against the leader Adrian Delia, after the party congress voted to hold a new leadership contest.
