Alex Munro (comedian)
Alex Munro (6 March 1911 – 20 January 1986) was a Scottish actor and comedian. Career Born as Alexander Neilson Horsburgh in Shettleston, Glasgow, he joined his brother Archie and sister June in an acrobatic act called ''The Star Trio''. They later changed their name to ''The Horsburgh Brothers and Agnes'' and became part of Florrie Forde's music hall company with Flanagan and Allen. During World War Two, Munro toured with the RAF show, ''Contact'', and had his own BBC radio series ''The Size of It''. He headlined in a number of British variety theatres, before finally making his home in Llandudno, Wales. He was given creative control of the Llandudno Pier Pavilion Theatre in the 1970s. The ''Alex Munro Show'' ran at the Happy Valley in Llandudno for 30 years. Shettleston
Shettleston ( sco, Shuttlestoun, gd, Baile Nighean Sheadna) is a district in the east end of Glasgow in Scotland. Toponymy The origin of the name 'Shettleston' is not clear and, like many place-names of possibly medieval origin, has had a multitude of spellings. A papal bull of 1179 refers to "villam filie Sedin" - the residence of Sedin's son or daughter. A Gaelic derivation suggests "the daughter of Seadna". Llandudno
Llandudno (, ) is a seaside resort, town and community in Conwy County Borough, Wales, located on the Creuddyn peninsula, which protrudes into the Irish Sea. In the 2011 UK census, the community – which includes Gogarth, Penrhyn Bay, Craigside, Glanwydden, Penrhynside, and Bryn Pydew – had a population of 20,701. The town's name means "Church of Saint Tudno". Llandudno Pier Pavilion Theatre
Llandudno Pier Pavilion Theatre was a Victorian seaside theatre in the holiday resort of Llandudno in North Wales, UK. Construction The Directors of the Llandudno Pier Company had successfully opened the new pier in 1878 and were now looking to expand their business to take advantage of Llandudno's growing popularity as a seaside resort. The existing sundeck pavilion at the end of the pier was proving inadequate to cope with the demand for musical recitals, so the decision was taken to build a bigger and better pavilion near the promenade entrance to the pier extension then under construction. Work started in 1881 and the plans called for a 2,000-seat three-storey structure, to be built in the typically flamboyant Victorian style, complete with a superbly detailed cast-iron veranda, running the length of the entire seaward side of the building. Janet Munro
Janet Munro (born Janet Neilson Horsburgh; 28 September 1934 – 6 December 1972) was a British actress. She won a Golden Globe Award for her performance in the film ''Darby O'Gill and the Little People'' (1959) and received a BAFTA Film Award nomination for her performance in the film '' Life for Ruth'' (1962). Munro starred in three Disney films: ''Darby O'Gill and the Little People'' (1959), ''Third Man on the Mountain'' (1959) and ''Swiss Family Robinson'' (1960). ''Holiday on the Buses'' is a 1973 British comedy film directed by Bryan Izzard and starring Reg Varney and Doris Hare. The film is the third and final spin-off film from the ITV sitcom ''On the Buses'' and succeeded the films ''On the Buses'' (1971) and ''Mutiny on the Buses'' (1972). The film was produced by Ronald Chesney and Ronald Wolfe for Hammer Films. A fourth film was originally planned but cancelled. ''Z-Cars'' or ''Z Cars'' (pronounced "zed cars") is a British television police procedural series centred on the work of mobile uniformed police in the fictional town of Newtown, based on Kirkby, near Liverpool. Produced by the BBC, it debuted in January 1962 and ran until September 1978. The series differed sharply from earlier police procedurals.
