Alessia Maurelli (born 22 August 1996) is an Italian group rhythmic gymnast who captains it from 2016. She is the 2020 Olympic Group All-around bronze medalist, a two-time (2014, 2018) World Group All-around silver medalist and three-time European (2021, 2018, and 2014) Group All-around silver medalist. Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport in which gymnasts perform on a floor with an apparatus: hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon. The Women's rhythmic group all-around competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics were held at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre in Tokyo, Japan, with the qualification taking place at 7 August and the final on 8 August. Russian rhythmic gymnasts were the five-time defending champions in the event. Competition format The competition consisted of a qualification round and a final round. The top eight teams in the qualification round advance to the final round. Career She was part of the 2010 and 2011 Italian Group that competed at the World Championships that won the Group All-around gold medal.
