Alerce, La Otra Música
Alerce, la otra música, also known Sello Alerce, was an independent record Chilean label, founded in 1976 by the journalist and radio executive Ricardo García, with the main objective being to supporting upcoming national folk artists, and to re-edit the albums that were prohibited under the military dictatorship. The label has a vast compilation of albums from famous artists belonging to the Nueva Canción Chilena movement, such as Quilapayún, Ángel Parra, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Barroco Andino, Patricio Manns, Congreso, Tito Fernández, and Víctor Jara, along with various more modern musical groups, such as Sexual Democracia, Los Tres, Jorge González, Manuel García, Bbs Paranoicos, and Chancho en Piedra. Víctor Jara
Víctor Lidio Jara Martínez (; 28 September 1932 – 16 September 1973) was a Chilean teacher, theater director, poet, singer-songwriter and Communist political activist. He developed Chilean theater by directing a broad array of works, ranging from locally produced plays to world classics, as well as the experimental work of playwrights such as Ann Jellicoe. He also played a pivotal role among neo-folkloric musicians who established the ''Nueva canción chilena'' (New Chilean Song) movement. This led to an uprising of new sounds in popular music during the administration of President Salvador Allende. Jara was arrested by the Chilean military shortly after the 11 September 1973 coup led by Augusto Pinochet, which overthrew Allende. Bbs Paranoicos is a Chilean punk rock band formed in 1991. They are one of the most popular punk bands in Chile. Manuel García (singer-songwriter)
Manuel Javier García Herrera (born 1 March 1970) is a folk-pop Chilean singer-songwriter and guitarist. He has won several awards and has twice received the Chilean National Music Prize, awarded by the Chilean Government (in 2008 and 2012). Early life García studied History and Geography Education at the University of Tarapacá in Arica and then moved to Santiago in 1994 to study professional guitar performance ("interpretación superior en guitarra") at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile with fellow musician Luis Orlandini. His professional career began in 1995 when he founded the band Coré (which also included later members of Chilean band Inti Illimani). Jorge González (musician)
Jorge Humberto González Ríos (born 6 December 1964) is a Chilean singer-songwriter, best known for being the leader, vocalist, writer and bassist of the band Los Prisioneros, considered by some to be the most popular rock band in the country. González recorded six studio albums with Los Prisioneros and five as a solo artist. He also formed the Latin electronic project ''Gonzalo Martínez'' with fellow musician Dandy Jack, which would become the precursor of the genre known as technocumbia, established with their first and only album released in 1997. It became a success in Europe's underground music circuit, mainly in Germany and United Kingdom. Humberto Waldemar Asdrúbal Baeza Fernández (9 December 1942 – 11 February 2023), also known as Tito Fernández, El Temucano, was a Chilean singer-songwriter and folklorist. He recorded and released more than 40 albums from the 1970s to the present. Fernández was born in Temuco but moved to Santiago as a teenager. In his 20s, he began singing in pubs and bars in the north of Chile, Peru, and Bolivia. He was imprisoned during the battle between the Bolivian army and Che Guevara's guerrillas. Fernández returned to Chile in 1971. He moved to Santiago where he recorded his music and shared the stage several times with Victor Jara. He was also active with the Juventudes Comunistas de Chile.
