The Alène () is a long river in the Nièvre department in central France. Its source is at Poil, about west of the village, in the ''parc naturel régional du Morvan''. It flows generally west. It is a left tributary of the Aron, into which it flows at Cercy-la-Tour, about east-northeast of Decize. Alene Duerk
Alene Bertha Duerk (March 29, 1920 – July 21, 2018) became the first female admiral in the U.S. Navy in 1972. She was also the director of the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps from 1970 to 1975. She is a 1974 recipient of a Distinguished Alumni Award of Case Western Reserve University's Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing. Early life and education Duerk was born in Defiance, Ohio, on March 29, 1920, to Albert and Emma Duerk. Alene Holt
Alene E. Holt (sometimes spelled Aileen Holt) was the first female alderman for Peterborough, Ontario, elected in 1959 and the first female mayor, appointed in 1962. Holt was involved in many community causes in the city of Peterborough including efforts to support the Second World War through victory bonds and volunteer service groups like the Kinettes. Holt was also a columnist for the ''Peterborough Examiner'', particularly writing about women's issues. She began her political career on the city planning board and went on to become Peterborough's first female alderman and first female mayor. Personal life Holt was born in Stratford, Ontario. Alene Lee (1931–1991) was an African-American member of the Beat generation in New York City whose romantic relationship with Jack Kerouac was the central theme in his novel '' The Subterraneans''. Kerouac used the pseudonym Mardou Fox for Lee.
