Alene Holt
Alene E. Holt (sometimes spelled Aileen Holt) was the first female alderman for Peterborough, Ontario, elected in 1959 and the first female mayor, appointed in 1962. Holt was involved in many community causes in the city of Peterborough including efforts to support the Second World War through victory bonds and volunteer service groups like the Kinettes. Holt was also a columnist for the ''Peterborough Examiner'', particularly writing about women's issues. She began her political career on the city planning board and went on to become Peterborough's first female alderman and first female mayor. Personal life Holt was born in Stratford, Ontario. She lived in Chalk River and Windsor before moving to Peterborough. While in Windsor, she graduated from the Western Business College. As a youth she won several awards as a mezzo-soprano vocalist. William Earl Rowe
William Earl Rowe, (May 13, 1894 – February 9, 1984), was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He served as the 20th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1963 to 1968. Background Rowe was born in Hull, Iowa, United States, of Canadian parents in 1894. He moved to Ontario with his family at the age of two and grew up to become a farmer and cattle breeder. In 1917, he married Treva Alda Lillian Lennox. Together, they had four children, one of which died during labour. Politics He was reeve of the township of West Gwillimbury from 1919 to 1923. Rowe served as a Member of Provincial Parliament from 1923 to 1925, when elected to the House of Commons, where he served until 1935. The Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario (french: Parti progressiste-conservateur de l'Ontario), often shortened to the Ontario PC Party or simply the PCs, colloquially known as the Tories, is a centre-right political party in Ontario, Canada. Keith Roy Brown (November 7, 1926 – July 7, 2015) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Progressive Conservative Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1959 to 1967 representing the riding of Peterborough. Background Brown was born in Bonarlaw, Ontario. Iva Campbell Fallis
Iva Campbell Fallis (June 23, 1883 – March 7, 1956) was the second female Canadian Senator. Early life and family Iva Campbell Fallis was born on a Northumberland County farm near Castledon, ON June 23, 1883. Fallis was the daughter of Jessie Stewart and Michael John Doyle, the warden of the county. She attended the Toronto Normal School and became a school teacher. In 1909, she married Howard Taylor Fallis in Colborne, ON. Career Fallis' career began with her becoming a teacher in Bethany, ON, where she met Howard Taylor Fallis whom she would later marry in Colborne, ON in 1909. The pair farmed in Saskatchewan for several years until they moved to a farm near Peterborough, ON called Smith Township in 1917. Gordon Knapman Fraser (6 March 1891 – 26 May 1960) was a National Government and Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario and became a financial agent and consultant by career. He was first elected at the Peterborough West riding in the 1940 general election, when the Conservative party was operating under the National Government banner, the Liberal candidate, Roland Maxwell Glover, publisher of the ''Peterborough Examiner''.
