Keith Brown (Ontario Politician)
Keith Roy Brown (November 7, 1926 – July 7, 2015) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Progressive Conservative Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1959 to 1967 representing the riding of Peterborough. Background Brown was born in Bonarlaw, Ontario. He was a member of the United Church of Canada and a freemason. He has owned several businesses in Peterborough, including a car dealership and a property development company. He and his wife Marjorie raised three daughters. Politics Brown was elected to the Ontario legislature in the 1959 general election, winning by a significant margin in Peterborough. He was re-elected in 1963. He did not run in 1967 citing business pressure. Daryl Bennett
Daryl Bennett (born May 27, 1948) is a retired Canadian politician in the Canadian province of Ontario. He was twice-elected as the mayor of Peterborough, having won the position in 2010 and was re-elected in 2014. In October 2018, councillor Diane Therrien defeated him in his bid for a third term. Early life and business career Bennett was born in Peterborough and graduated from the Peterborough Collegiate and Vocational School. His father, George Bennett, was a city councillor from 1971 to 1980, and his father-in-law, Keith Brown, was a Progressive Conservative Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) from 1959 to 1967. The 2002 Ontario Progressive Conservative leadership election was a leadership election called in the fall of 2001 when Ontario Progressive Conservative Party Premier Mike Harris announced his intention to resign. The candidates to succeed Harris were Elizabeth Witmer, Tony Clement, Ernie Eves, Jim Flaherty and Chris Stockwell. Eves was not initially a candidate, but was persuaded to join the race by senior Tories who felt none of the other candidates could win a provincial election. Witmer and Eves sought to distance the party from Harris's "Common Sense Revolution" agenda. Eves began his campaign with a speech in which he said he was neither left wing nor right wing. He later said that the government should not be giving tax credits to parents who send their children to private schools unless the schools teach the government curriculum.
