Aleksandrs Fertovs
Aleksandrs Fertovs (born 16 June 1987) is a Latvian footballer who plays as a midfielder for FK RFS and the Latvia national football team. Fertovs's nickname in Latvia is Kaķis (Cat). Club career Early career Aleksandrs Fertovs started playing football in 1998, at the age of 11. As a youth player he played for his local club JFC Skonto, being a member of the Skonto Riga academy. In 2007, he was taken to the Latvian Higher League club JFK Olimps. Even though Olimps finished the championship in the last place of the table, Fertovs showed good performance, playing 13 matches during the season. In 2008, he was offered to join Skonto Riga first team. The competition for places in the starting line-up was stiff, and the youngster found himself playing just 1 match for the club. Later he was loaned out and yet again joined JFK Olimps, who despite finishing last the previous season, had secured themselves a place in the Latvian Higher League for the upcoming one. Aleksandrs Starkovs
Aleksandrs Starkovs (born 26 July 1955) is a Latvian football coach and a former player. Most recently he coached FK Liepāja. Starkovs has managed clubs such as Spartak Moscow in Russia, FK Baku in Azerbaijan and Skonto FC in Latvia. He had three stints with the Latvia national team. Playing career Starkovs started playing football in Madona where he played for the local Olimpija Madona playing for which he was selected the best forward of the 1969 Latvia ''Leather ball'' tournament. In 1975 Starkovs joined FK Daugava Rīga. In 1978 Starkovs went to FC Dynamo Moscow but it was not the right team for him, so soon Starkovs was back in Riga. The Baltic Cup ( et, Balti turniir, lv, Baltijas kauss, lt, Baltijos taurė) is an international association football, football competition contested by the national teams of the Baltic states – Estonia national football team, Estonia, Latvia national football team, Latvia and Lithuania national football team, Lithuania. Finland national football team, Finland has also participated in the event twice as a guest and so did Iceland national football team, Iceland once. Genādijs Soloņicins (born 3 January 1980 in Liepāja) is a retired Latvian football midfielder. His last professional club was Liepājas Metalurgs in the Latvian Higher League, the club where he spent most of his professional career. Soloņicins was also a member of Latvia national football team. Club career Soloņicins played for Liepājas Metalurgs for 12 years, making his debut in 1997. In the penultimate match of the 2004 Virslīga season he missed a crucial last minute penalty in a 3–2 loss to Skonto FC meaning the club lost out to Skonto on becoming Latvian champions. However, the following season, Soloņicins was part of the Liepājas Metalurgs team that finally broke Skonto's 14-year reign in Latvian football when they became Virslīga champions in October 2005.
