Aleksandrs Cauņa
Aleksandrs Cauņa (; born 19 January 1988) is a Latvian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Club Born in Daugavpils, at youth level Cauņa played for Dinaburg, being brought to Skonto Riga system at the age of 14 in 2002, where he spent three years. In 2006, he joined the Latvian First League side Olimps Riga, playing 10 matches and scoring 2 goals. In 2006, he re-joined Skonto Riga and got a place in the starting eleven. He was named the best youth player in Latvia despite playing only half the season in 2006. In January 2008 Cauņa was invited to join the Premier League club Chelsea on trial and he trained with the club's reserves. After the 2008 season Cauņa was on trials at several Premier League clubs, including Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland, but moves eventually fell through as managers Paul Ince and Roy Keane left the clubs. Aleksandrs Fertovs (born 16 June 1987) is a Latvian footballer who plays as a midfielder for FK RFS and the Latvia national football team. Fertovs's nickname in Latvia is Kaķis (Cat). Club career Early career Aleksandrs Fertovs started playing football in 1998, at the age of 11. As a youth player he played for his local club JFC Skonto, being a member of the Skonto Riga academy. In 2007, he was taken to the Latvian Higher League club JFK Olimps. Even though Olimps finished the championship in the last place of the table, Fertovs showed good performance, playing 13 matches during the season. In 2008, he was offered to join Skonto Riga first team. The competition for places in the starting line-up was stiff, and the youngster found himself playing just 1 match for the club. Aleksandrs Čaks (born Aleksandrs Čadarainis; 27 October 1901 – 8 February 1950), was a Latvian poet and writer. Čaks is arguably the first Latvian writer whose works are distinctly urban, compared to the usual depictions of country life or small villages in earlier Latvian literature. Biography He was born in Riga to a tailor's family, and, continuing to live in Riga, he followed the city's life in his poetry. In 1911 he started studies in Alexanders Gymnasium in Riga. After First World War started gymnasium was evacuated first to Voru, Estonia and later to Saransk, Russia. In gymnasium he got good education and was often seen reading philosophical works. Aleksandrs Laime ( es, Alejandro Laime, en, Alexander Laime) was a famous Latvian-born explorer. He is most noted for being the first recorded human to reach Angel Falls, located in Venezuela, by foot. He also established, together with Charles Baughan, the tourist camp of Canaima, created solely for the purpose of bringing tourists to Angel Falls. Early life Aleksandrs Laime was born on July 9, 1911 in Riga. He grew up in Grīziņkalns neighborhood, and since early childhood was interested in adventure stories and shipping. Aleksandrs Čekulajevs (born 10 September 1985) is a Latvian footballer who plays as a forward. Čekulajevs is widely famous for his goal scoring abilities. Scoring 46 goals in the 2011 Meistriliiga season he was named in third position as world's top scorer of the year by IFFHS. Aleksandrs Samoilovs (born April 6, 1985) is a beach volleyball player from Latvia. Samoilovs and teammate Mārtiņš Pļaviņš, with whom he partnered since 2004, represented Latvia at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. The duo defeated the number 2 seed, Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers, in their first-round game, in what announcers called "the biggest upset in Olympic beach volleyball history."
