Aleksandr Sorokin
Aleksandr “Sania” Sorokin (born 30 September 1981) is a Lithuanian long-distance runner holding multiple world and European records. As of September 2022, he held seven world records on the track and road: 100,000m (track), 100 miles (road), 100 miles (track), six-hour run, 12-hour run (track), 12-hour run (road), 24-hour run (road). Sorokin won the IAU 24 Hour World Championship in 2019, IAU European 24 Hour Championships in 2022 and the Spartathlon in 2017. He covered greatest distances in 24 hours [], in 12 hours [], and achieved the fastest time for 100 miles (10 hours, 51 minutes, 39 seconds), in some cases having broken his own earlier records in subsequent runs. Ashford is a town in the county of Kent, England. World records in athletics are ratified by World Athletics. Athletics records comprise the best performances in the sports of track and field, road running and racewalking. Records are kept for all events contested at the Olympic Games and some others. Unofficial records for some other events are kept by track and field statisticians. The only non-metric track distance for which official records are kept is the mile run. Criteria The criteria which must be satisfied for ratification of a world record are defined by World Athletics in Part III of the Competition Rules. These criteria also apply to national or other restricted records and also to performances submitted as qualifying marks for eligibility to compete in major events such as the Olympic Games.
