Aleksandr Berzin
Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Berzin (russian: Александр Александрович Берзин; born 18 March 1946) is a retired officer of the Soviet and Russian navies. He reached the rank of rear admiral and received the title of Hero of the Russian Federation during his career. Biography Berzin was born on 18 March 1946 in Moscow, in what was then the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, in the Soviet Union. Orphaned at an early age, he was raised by relatives in Baku in the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, attending the Nakhimov Naval School in Leningrad and graduating with a silver medal in 1965. He went on to study at the Frunze Higher Naval School, graduating in 1970 and joining the Northern Fleet for service on submarines. Kuznetsov Naval Academy
The N. G. Kuznetsov Naval Academy (russian: Военно-морская академия имени Н. Г. Кузнецова) is the main staff college and postgraduate institution for the Russian Navy and is located in Saint Petersburg. In 1827 Admiral Ivan Kruzenshtern initiated an Officers' Class at the Naval Cadet Corps. In 1862 the Class was reorganized into an Academic Course of Maritime Science. In 1877, to mark its fiftieth anniversary, the Class was renamed the Nikolaev Naval Academy (Nikolayevskaya Morskaya Akademiya) and in 1910 was completely detached from the Naval Cadet Corps. The Academy's last pre-revolutionary class was in 1913. Toward the end of the Soviet era the Academy was named the A. A. Grechko Naval Academy and finally was renamed the N. G. Kuznetsov Naval Academy. Candidate of Sciences (russian: кандидат наук, translit=kandidat nauk) is the first of two doctoral level scientific degrees in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. It is formally classified as UNESCO's ISCED level 8, "doctoral or equivalent". It may be recognized as Doctor of Philosophy, usually in natural sciences, by scientific institutions in other countries. Former Soviet countries also have a more advanced degree, Doctor of Sciences. Military Academy Of The General Staff Of The Armed Forces Of Russia
The Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (russian: Военная академия Генерального штаба Вооруженных Сил Российской Федерации) is the senior staff college of the Russian Armed Forces. The academy is located in Moscow, on 14 Kholzunova Lane. It was founded in 1936 as a Soviet institution, based on higher command courses that had been established at the M. V. Frunze Military Academy, itself founded in 1918. An earlier General Staff Academy had existed during the Imperial period, since 1832. Students were, and probably still are, admitted to the Academy in the ranks of lieutenant colonel, colonel, and General-Major (one star). Most were colonels or newly promoted generals.
