Alejandro Albizu (ca. 1812 – ca. 1892) was an interim Corregidor (position), corregidor Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, from when interim Corregidor (position), corregidor Francisco Arce y Romero terminated his mayoral duties around March 1872. Francisco Arce y Romero (ca. 1822 – ca. 1902) was an interim Corregidor Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, in 1872. Juan Cortada Y Quintana
Juan Cortada y Quintana (c. 1820 – 22 August 1889) was a Puerto Rican politician, businessman, and landowner. He served as Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, from 27 September 1872 to 4 February 1874. Early years Cortada y Quintana was the son of Juan Cortada (c.1794-1865), born in Catalunya, Spain, and Monserrate Quintana. He had two brothers, Ramon and Manuel. Hacendado Cortada and his brother Ramón, were ''hacendados'', landowners who owned several sugarcane haciendas like Hacienda Descalabrado (then known as Central Cortada), Las Mercedes, La Palmarito, and La Mallorquina, among others. They were located in the region between Ponce and Santa Isabel. The workers in such estates were almost always slaves. Thus it is likely that Cortada owned slaves in working his sugarcane farm. A ''corregidor'' () was a local administrative and judicial official in Spanish Empire. They were the representatives of the king, royal jurisdiction over a town and its district. He was the highest authority of a ''corregimiento''. In the Spanish Americas and the Spanish Philippines, a ''corregidor'' was often called an ''alcalde mayor''. This is a list of mayors of Ponce, Puerto Rico's southern economic center, the island's second largest and second most important city. From 1692 to 1840, the office of mayor in Ponce was filled either by local hacendados or by military officers appointed by the governor, depending on whether the political situation on Spain at the time was that of a constitutional or an absolutist government. From 1840 to 1870, mayors were oftentimes elected by the municipal council, whose members were called ''regidores''. In 1870, political parties were created for the first time and municipal officials were elected by the people at large, and the mayor, as well as the members of the municipal council, would belong to one of the two parties active, either the Partido Liberal Reformista or the Partido Incondicional Español.
